420 <br />Next to appear before the Board was Kenneth Taube, representing the Lions Club, <br />and requesting permission of the Board to conduct their annual White Cane Day on <br />behalf of the blind for the date of Saturday, May 3rd. Request was granted. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: <br />The Board then took up the matter of the bids opened at the previous regular <br />meeting, and accepted the bid of Rieth-Riley Construction Company for the re -surfacing <br />of Wayne Street from Taylor Street to St. Joseph Street for the sum of $27,853.70, <br />their bid being in the -Board's opinion the lowest and best°bid received, subject to the <br />approval of the Common Council. <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO.2688 <br />In the matter of the,Bids for the Improvement of Crumstown (Ardmore Trail) Avenue <br />from the center line,of Lincolnway 'West to the center line of lot 8 in Lincoln Manor <br />2nd Addition by constructing a local sewer in accordance with Improvement Resolution <br />No. 2688, 1952 passed by the Board of Public Works and 'Safety on February 25, 1952, and <br />confirmed by said Board on March 17, 1952, the Board accepted the Bid of the Niles <br />Excavating Company for the sum of $4898.00. Their bid being in the Board's opinion <br />the lowest and best bid received. <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2704 <br />In the matter of Bids for the improvement of North Elmer Street from 625 feet <br />south of the center line of Marquette Blvd. and to 460 feet north of the center line <br />of Marquette Blvd. by constructing a local sewer in accordance with Improvement <br />Resolution No. 2704, 1952 passed by the Board of Public Works'and Safety on February <br />25th; 1952, and confirmed by said Board on March 17, 1952, the Board accepted the Bid <br />of Niles Excavating Company for the sum of $9,0.99.60. Their -bid being in the Board's <br />opinion the lowest and best bid received. <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2706 <br />In the matter of Bids for the improvement of Wall Street from the center line of <br />Twyckenham Drive to 220 feet west of the west line of Greenlawn Avenue by constructing <br />a local sewer in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2706, 1952, passed by <br />the Board of Public Works and Safety on February 25, 1952, and confirmed by said <br />Board on March 17, 1952, the Board accepted the Bid of Haines & Haines Contruction <br />Company for the sum of $4,108.00. Their Bid being in the Board's opinion the 1'owe`st <br />and best bid received. <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2707 <br />In the matter of the Bids for the Improvement of Gertrude Street from the center <br />line -of Ewing Avenue .to 1276 feet south of the center line of Ewing Avenue by con- <br />structing a local sewer in -accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2707, 1952 passed <br />by the Board of Public Works and Safety on February 25, 1952, and confirmed by said <br />Board on March 17, 19529 the Board accepted the Bid of Haines & Haines Construction <br />Company for the sum of $5,105.00. Their Bid being in the Board's opinion the lowest <br />and best bid received. _ <br />Street Improvement Plans for Sample Street, submitted by the'Colpaert Realty <br />Corporation, involving intersections with the following streets - <br />Sylvan Lane Greenview Avenue <br />Garden Lane Fairway <br />Birchwood Avenue Gladstone Avenue <br />Edison Avenue <br />were examined and approved by the Board. <br />Sewer Construction Plans for Miami Street in Broadmoor and for certain special <br />structures involved were examined and approved by the Board. <br />Plan for the route of proposed 161' gas main,'submitted by Northern Indiana Public <br />Service Company, extending beyond the .City Limits out Miami Highway, was also examined <br />and approved. <br />A petition to vacate the alley from High Street to Studebaker Golf Course was <br />received by the Board and referred to the City Plan Commission. <br />A petition to improve the alley between College and Adams Streets from Humboldt <br />Street North to intersection of east and west alley was examined and referred to the <br />City Engineer. <br />Excavation Bond for $lOx000.00, in the name of Archie Garrison d/b/a Archie's <br />Contractors was approved by the Board and placed on file. <br />n <br />U <br />A <br />L� <br />• <br />0 <br />
