<br />A letter addressed to the Board by the Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., dated March
<br />1I26th, 1952, in reference to Ordinance No. 3863, and written at the request of the
<br />jCommon Council, was read, and the matter of a thirty day trial rerouting of the Western
<br />;Avenue to Falcon Street, and the Belleville via Ford Street bus routes described in
<br />(this letter, was explained to the Board by Attorney Nicholas Cholis, who personally
<br />;appeared before the Board. The adjustment in routes, to be put into effect April 12,
<br />!1952, was taken under advisement to be acted upon at the next meeting of the Board.
<br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT:
<br />Drawings and blueprints pertaining to the installation of a fire escape at the
<br />rear of Wymants Department Store were presented to the Board by representatives.of
<br />Wymants. The -Board examined the drawings and finding the normal position of the fire
<br />escape to be 33 feet above the alley, approved the installation and referred the
<br />drawings and blueprints to the Building Department.
<br />i�Mr. Wilbur Gartner of Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates, Civil Engineers, reported
<br />to the Board Profiles, Drawings, Plans, General Details, Specifications, Estimates
<br />!.and Preliminary Improvement Resolution for the improvement of KENMORE STREET from
<br />• :!the south line of Western Avenue to the north line of Ford Street, AND

<br />ALLEY BETWEEN BR OOKF'IELD S TREE T AND JOHNSON S TREE T from the north line of Vassar
<br />Avenue to the south line of Humboldt Street, AND
<br />! KLINGER STREET from the east line of Michigan Street to the west line of Charles

<br />SOUTH ILLINOIS STREET from the north line of Western Avenue to the south line of
<br />Washington Street, AND
<br />j ALLEYS BETWEEN FOX STREET, DONALD STREET, DALE AVENUE, AND MIAMI STREET.
<br />The Board approved the reports and passed Improvement Resolutions, authorizing
<br />!these public improvements, and the 23rd day of April 1952 at the hour of 7:30 o'clock
<br />'P. M. CST is hereby fixed as the time, and the office of the Board in said City -as the
<br />�placa
<br />, when and where all persons whose property may be affected by such proposed
<br />improvement, may be heard as to the necessity for the same, and all petitions and
<br />'remonstrances received and the Board will, on said day, decide whether the benefits
<br />.accruing to abutting and adjacent property, and to the City of South Bend, Indiana, will
<br />Abe equal to or exceed the estimated cost of said improvement. The Clerk of the Board
<br />is hereby o3�s3ered to .give notice by two weekly publications, of the time and place of
<br />,hearing of the following resolutions:

<br />! IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTIONS NOS. 2702, 2703, 2709, 2712 and 27159 adopted
<br />March 31, 1952 and to be published on April 4, and April ll, 1952.
<br />The Board next took up the matter of the bituminous concrete (AH) re -surface
<br />;pavement on Sample Street from the East line of Lincolnway East to the South line of
<br />:Mishawaka Avenue and ordered legal notice to be published inviting sealed bids, said
<br />'notice to appear April 4th and April llth, specifying bids to be received at the
<br />;office of the Board until 11*00 A. M. April 21, 1952.
<br />It now being 11:00 o'clock, the time set for the opening of bids for the supplying
<br />of equipment, gravel and -ready -mixed concrete for the Street Department and wire and
<br />;.fire alarm boxes for the Electrical Department, the Board then proceeded to open bids
<br />.
