394 are underway, in order that he may be present. The suggestion was made by Mr. Liss that interstate pipe line may be located in that vicinity. Engineer Andrysiak stated, that to his knowledge, such line exist only in the vicinity of Western Avenue and at Ireland Road, but he will verify this by checking with the oil companies. Mr. Liss also suggested that the City would probably want to fill the excavation with grater after removal of tank, in an attempt to flush the gasoline from the soil. It was agreed that the City Engineer will be notified and present when removal of tank takes place. Mr. Karl Brecht and Mr. Ralph E. Allen, representatives of the Studebaker Corporation, appeared before the Board and presented a blue print of their proposed parking lot on the East side of South Michigan Street, North of the railroad viaduct and Bronson Street,, Traffic Engineer, Ernest Miller, was present and the matter of the entrance and exit was given special consideration. The plan as submitted, was approved by the Board, with the stipulation that should a traffic problem arise, the entrance and exit to the parking lot would be changed to correct the situation. STREET DEPARTMENT: Harry M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner,was present and the matter of street signs for the new additions was first taken up. After brief discussion, the Board decided to take this under advisement for further study. Mr. Tomlinson then brought to the attention of the Board several pieces of automotive equipment urgently in need of replacement and the Board directed that he draw up specifications covering his needs in proper form to advertise for bids. Mr. Tomlinson also mentioned his need for a special body for truck used for trash hauling. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: City Engineer, Ray S. Andrysiak, again brought up the matter of the Hydraulic Avenue bridge,.declaring it to be unsafe and too far deteriorated to put any further expense into repair. Mr. Tomlinson suggested that the City buy up the water rights of firms still holding such rights on.property adjoining Hydraulic Avenue. Engineer Andrysiak offered a plan whereby the mill race could be filled in at the bridge location without affectin water rights of the two or more holders of such rights on Hydraulic Avenue. The Board withheld action in the matter, subject to further study. PETITIONS: C RUMS TO!PIN AVENUE SEWER_ Petition was presented and filed by John Barkowski and five others for a local sewer on Cr=.stown Avenue from center line of Lincolnway West to center line of lot No.b in Lincoln Manor 2nd Addition. Petition of John Barkowski and fLVe others for a local sewer on Crumstown Avenue was referred to City Engineer. City Civil Engineer, Ray S. Andrysiak, recommends petition of John Barkowski and five others for Crumstown Avenue local sewer be granted. Wilbur He Gartner & Associates were ordered to prepare plans and specifications for construction of local sewer on Crumstown Avenue. NORTH ELMER STREET SEWER Petition was presented and filed by Better Homes of, South Bend, Inc. and three others for a local sewer on North Elmer Street from 625 feet South of the center line of Marquestte Boulevard to 460 feet North of the center line of _Marquette Boulevard. Petition of Better Names of South Bend, Inc. and three others for a local sewer on North Elmer Street was referred to City Engineer. Ray S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, recommends petition of Better Homes of South.Bend,Ind and three others for North Elmer Street local sewer be granted. 11 Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates were ordered to prepare plans and specifications for construction of local sewer on North Elmer Street. WALL S TREE T SEWER Petition was presented and filed by Whitcomb and Keller, Inc. for local sewer on Wall Street from the center line of Twyckenham Drive to 220 feet West of West line of Greenlawn Avenue.
