394 <br />are underway, in order that he may be present. The suggestion was made by Mr. Liss <br />that interstate pipe line may be located in that vicinity. Engineer Andrysiak stated, <br />that to his knowledge, such line exist only in the vicinity of Western Avenue and at <br />Ireland Road, but he will verify this by checking with the oil companies. Mr. Liss <br />also suggested that the City would probably want to fill the excavation with grater <br />after removal of tank, in an attempt to flush the gasoline from the soil. <br />It was agreed that the City Engineer will be notified and present when removal of <br />tank takes place. <br />Mr. Karl Brecht and Mr. Ralph E. Allen, representatives of the Studebaker Corporation, <br />appeared before the Board and presented a blue print of their proposed parking lot on <br />the East side of South Michigan Street, North of the railroad viaduct and Bronson Street,, <br />Traffic Engineer, Ernest Miller, was present and the matter of the entrance and <br />exit was given special consideration. The plan as submitted, was approved by the <br />Board, with the stipulation that should a traffic problem arise, the entrance and exit <br />to the parking lot would be changed to correct the situation. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: <br />Harry M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner,was present and the matter of street signs <br />for the new additions was first taken up. After brief discussion, the Board decided <br />to take this under advisement for further study. <br />Mr. Tomlinson then brought to the attention of the Board several pieces of <br />automotive equipment urgently in need of replacement and the Board directed that he <br />draw up specifications covering his needs in proper form to advertise for bids. Mr. <br />Tomlinson also mentioned his need for a special body for truck used for trash hauling. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: <br />City Engineer, Ray S. Andrysiak, again brought up the matter of the Hydraulic <br />Avenue bridge,.declaring it to be unsafe and too far deteriorated to put any further <br />expense into repair. <br />Mr. Tomlinson suggested that the City buy up the water rights of firms still <br />holding such rights on.property adjoining Hydraulic Avenue. Engineer Andrysiak offered <br />a plan whereby the mill race could be filled in at the bridge location without affectin <br />water rights of the two or more holders of such rights on Hydraulic Avenue. The Board <br />withheld action in the matter, subject to further study. <br />PETITIONS: <br />C RUMS TO!PIN AVENUE SEWER_ <br />Petition was presented and filed by John Barkowski and five others for a local sewer <br />on Cr=.stown Avenue from center line of Lincolnway West to center line of lot No.b <br />in Lincoln Manor 2nd Addition. <br />Petition of John Barkowski and fLVe others for a local sewer on Crumstown Avenue <br />was referred to City Engineer. <br />City Civil Engineer, Ray S. Andrysiak, recommends petition of John Barkowski and <br />five others for Crumstown Avenue local sewer be granted. <br />Wilbur He Gartner & Associates were ordered to prepare plans and specifications <br />for construction of local sewer on Crumstown Avenue. <br />NORTH ELMER STREET SEWER <br />Petition was presented and filed by Better Homes of, South Bend, Inc. and three <br />others for a local sewer on North Elmer Street from 625 feet South of the center line <br />of Marquestte Boulevard to 460 feet North of the center line of _Marquette Boulevard. <br />Petition of Better Names of South Bend, Inc. and three others for a local sewer on <br />North Elmer Street was referred to City Engineer. <br />Ray S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, recommends petition of Better Homes of South.Bend,Ind <br />and three others for North Elmer Street local sewer be granted. 11 <br />Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates were ordered to prepare plans and specifications for <br />construction of local sewer on North Elmer Street. <br />WALL S TREE T SEWER <br />Petition was presented and filed by Whitcomb and Keller, Inc. for local sewer on <br />Wall Street from the center line of Twyckenham Drive to 220 feet West of West line of <br />Greenlawn Avenue. <br />Petition of Whitcomb and Keller, Inc. for local sewer on Wall Street was referred <br />to City Engineer. <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />a, <br />• <br />c <br />Ray S.
