e <br />December 31, 1951 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, December 31, 1951 <br />at 10:00 a.m. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and <br />approved. Salary claims in the amount of $14,655,86 were approved and ordered paid. <br />Claims of the following suppliers in the amount of $22,198,37 were approved and ordered <br />paid: <br />Continental Oil Co. <br />Englewood Electrical Supply <br />St. Joseph Hospital <br />STREET & TRAFFIC. <br />Badur Brothers Coal Co. <br />Continental Oil Co. <br />Harmon, V. Burke; Arthur W. Deppert; Balbina Perkins d/b/a Harry D. Perkins Co.; <br />W. W. Sibley & 'W. P. Sibley d/b/a Sibley Heating and Plumbing Company; and Victor Trippe <br />C. Harry Swanson, Inc., by Mr. Floyd Searer appeared at the meeting and filed an <br />amended petition for the vacation of certain streets. The Board ordered that the amend- <br />ed.petition be sent to the City Plan Commission for t heir investigation and recommenda- <br />tion. <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2694-1951 <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll showing the award <br />of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of vacation of the alley running <br />north and soVith from Western Avenue to Monroe Street between Columbia Street and Carroll <br />Street excepting the north 99 feet of said alley under Vacation Resolution No. 2694. <br />In the above named assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remon- <br />strances were filed, the Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of publication of notices <br />and same were found sufficient, and the Board, therefore, finds that the several lots a. <br />parcels of land have been benefited and damaged in the amounts shown on said roll. The <br />Board, therefore, decided to take final action on said assessment roll and declaressame <br />in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without modification and the proceedings <br />closed and portion of alley vacated upon receipt of the amount of benefit assessments <br />from the various property owners so benefited and all proceedings had with reference to <br />said alley vacation are hereby sustained. <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2696-1951 <br />This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by the <br />Board of Public Works for the vacation of a portion of Columbia Street described as <br />follows; Commencing at a point on the west line of Columbia Street at a point'134 feet <br />northeasterly at right angles from the northeasterly line of Lincoln Way East; thence <br />southeasterly across Columbia Street on a line projected southeasterly to the east line <br />of said Columbia Street and which line before projection southeasterly is 134 feet north <br />easterly at right angles and parallel to the northeasterly line of Lincoln Way East; <br />thence north along the east line of Columbia Street to the River's edge; thence northwes <br />ly along the River's edge to the west line of Columbia Street; thence south along west <br />line of Columbia Street to place of beginning; said vacation being subject to all ease- <br />ments now existing and inuring to the benefit of Public utilities operating in the City <br />of South Bend under Vacation Resolution No. 2696. The Clerk of the Board having shown <br />sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and now ritten ' <br />remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously <br />carried that the said resolution be finally adopted and the said portion of street be <br />vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering <br />the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surrounding properties. <br />SEWAGE DISPOSAL: Mr. Ora Parker filed a remonstrance against the blocking by the Fattor <br />Company of North Shore Drive and Pleasant Street during the construction of his contract <br />of the intercepting sewer system. This remonstrance was referred to the City Engineer. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: Melton 0.
