This was referred to Mr. Miller. <br />RAILROADS: A letter was received protesting the removal of railroad watchman at the <br />grade crossings at Western Avenue and Washington Avenue. A letter was sent to Mr. G. A. <br />Farabaugh, attorney for the New York Central Railroad asking that a representative of <br />the railroad be present at the next regular Board meeting Monday, October 8, 1951. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractors? Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Adams <br />Roofing & Construction Company; Melvin L. Green; Carl McClellan; and Kenneth F. Rose d/b/a <br />Red Rose Builder. <br />Permission was granted for the erection of a canopy across the sidewalk at the Firs <br />Presbyterian Church Saturday, October 6, 1951. <br />Sewer plans were approved by the Board in the McKinley Terrace Addition for the <br />Crown Development Company for Manchester Drive and Corby Street. <br />Mr. R. A. Smith representing Wilson Brothers appeared before the Board to discuss <br />the smoke nuisance. Mr. Smith assured the Board they were willing to cooperate in any <br />way possible and would have smoke arrestors placed on their buildings. <br />L. 0. Gates Chevrolet Corp., was granted permission to build certain driveways, <br />curbs and sidewalks along Western Avenue, Franklin and Wayne Streets for their new garag6. <br />One driveway entrance on Franklin Street will necessitate that trucks will have to back <br />up over the sidewalk. This permit is issued on the condition that each and every time <br />a delivery is made where the truck must back in over the walk, a man will be posted to <br />protect the pedestrian traffic at this driveway. <br />Mr. Harold Maurer and Mr. Roger Doust appeared before the Board to request permisW <br />sion to occupy a portion of the street in f ront of the National Bank Building during con;; <br />struction of a vault for the bank. It was the decision of the Board that permission for`:' <br />the above project be withheld until such time as the heavy traffic, due to football games <br />in South Bend, would be eliminated. Permission for such work will be granted about <br />November 26, 1951. <br />
