340 <br />I have contacted Chief Bolderjack of the Mishawaka Police Dept. to whom the petition <br />was referred. After discussion of the problems involved.it was decided that it would be <br />impractical to prohibit trucks from using Ironwood Drive as this is the only through Stve t <br />capable of handling truck traffic between Logan Street in Mishawaka and Twyckenham Drive <br />in South Bend. Logan Street is one mile east of Ironwood and Twyekenham Drive is one-hal <br />mile west of Ironwood. <br />?Thirty Mile Per hour -Signs will be installed on Ironwood Drive between L. W. E., and <br />Ewing Avenue both in South Bend, and Mishawaka. <br />• <br />'Very truly ypurs,- <br />Ernest H. Miller <br />-City Traffic Engineer <br />Mr. Robert Hajzyk appeared before the Board to present a petition to prohibit truck <br />traffic on Camden Street from Sample to Western Avenue. This was referred to Mr. Miller <br />for investigation and report. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractorst Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Clifford <br />ones and William r. Myers. - <br />The Board approved plans for pavement on Klinger Street from the alley west of Addi- <br />son Street to St. Joseph Street. <br />The Board approved plans and specifications for a pavement on LaSalle Avenue from <br />the east line of 141ain Street to the west line of Hill Street. The Clerk of the Board was <br />directed to advertise for bids for the above pavement with bids to be returned October 1,. <br />1951 at 11:00 a.m. <br />Wallace R. Schwalm and Merritt Schwalm appeared before the Board to present a peti- <br />tion to vacate the first alley west of Eddy Street from Washington Street north to the <br />alley north of Washington Street. This was referred to the City Engineering Department <br />for the preparation of a vacation resolution. <br />The Board approved the driveway plans for the building at the northwest corner of <br />West Calvert Street and South Franklin Street for•the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. <br />This plan was approved with the understanding that every time a truck is backed in to the <br />building, a CD <br />guard will be posted at the sidewalk and that all vehicles will be completely <br />off of public property during loading and unloading operations. <br />A complaint having been received regarding smoke nuisance emanating from a building <br />at 232 South St. Joseph Street, Mr. Fred Elbel, w.ner of the Peerless Press, who occupies <br />said building was directed to appear before the Board on Monday, September 24, 1951 at <br />11:00 a.m., regarding the above complaint. <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2686 <br />R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the awards of <br />damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the first alley <br />west of Scott Street from. Lincoln Way West to the south line of the alley north of Lincol <br />Way West under Vacation Resolution '�o. 268E, <br />In the above named assessment roll, the Board 'hereby orders that it will meet in the •.. <br />City Hall at 11:00 a.m., on the 8th day of October, 1951 for thepurpose of hearing and <br />receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said vacation, and <br />the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the amount of damages <br />awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by publishing same on h <br />the 21st day of September and on the 28th day of September, 1951, in the South Bend Daily <br />Tribune and the Weekly Tri-County News. <br />BEFFERSON,BLVD.
