589 <br />October 17, 1949 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, October 17th, <br />1949 at 9:00 A. ICI. All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read <br />and approved. Salary claims in the amount of $25,383.89 were approved. Mr. Ernest H. Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters <br />• pertaining to his department were discussed. � <br />Ernest H. Miller and Steve Ivankovics were authorized to attend the 37th National <br />Safety Congress in Chicago October 24th to October 28th, 1949 inclusive. <br />A. petition requesting the removal of he truck traffic in the 1900 block of Ind- <br />i.ana was referred to Mr. Miller. <br />TAXI CABS':: <br />Leon Kowalski and Joseph Binder appeared before the Board requesting a taxi cab <br />stand, with space for 1 cab, in front of the Co -Operative Food Market on South Michigan <br />Street. Mr. Binder stated that he now has three cabs in service with four full time <br />drivers and one part time driver. This request was taken under advisement and Ernest <br />H. Miller, Traffic Engineer, was asked to check the location as to its feasibility for � <br />a, taxi -cab stand. <br />Mr. Miller reported that the following 'stop signs and traffic signals had been in l <br />stalled and are now in service: <br />Stop Signs oia Vine Street at 28th Street, both sides <br />Stop Signs on Tutt Street at Main Street, both sides <br />Traffic Signals installed at LaSalle and 'r'Ii lliams_ Street 10/14/49 <br />• Traffic Signals installed at Madison and Main Street 10/13/49 <br />Traffic Signals installed at Jefferson and Willism St. 10/12/49 <br />j ENGINEERING <br />RESOLUTION <br />No. 2588 - 1949 <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />October 17, 1949 <br />• Be It Resolved, By the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Ind- <br />iana, that the Pri_r_nary or Preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on'the 3rd <br />day of October, 1949 for the improvement of GRACE STREET from t1je west line of the alley <br />west of Webster Street to the west property line of the Oliver rarm Equipment Company <br />property by draining, grading and paving the roadway with a Class "C" Type One (1) pave- <br />ment be and the same is in all things confirmed. <br />R. Michigan Street appeared before the Board to pre- <br />sent a petition as'•_-ing that the Bowman Creek be cleared of rubbish and debris.
