453 <br />0 <br />n <br />U <br />CJ <br />0 <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr, Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per- <br />taining to his department were discussed. <br />Damage to two traffic signals was reported to the Board, and the Clerk was directed <br />to write letters to the insurance company and to the persons involved asking for reim- <br />bursement for the cost of repairs. <br />BUS ROUTES.: A petition signed by residents of the River Ridge Addition was sent to the <br />Common Council and referred by them to the Board, asking for bus service for school <br />children attending the Piarquette School. Said petition was sent to the Northern Indiana <br />Transit Corrpany for investigation and report. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT. Excavation bond was approved and ordered filed for Bernhard D. <br />Johnson, and a Contractor's Bond was approved and ordered filed for Paul L. Pocza. <br />A petition was received asking for the investigation of smoke and odor conditions <br />in the area of Fisher, Dunham, Maade and Olive Streets caused by the South Bend Grain <br />Elevator Company. A letter was drafted by the Board and sent to the South Bend Elevator <br />Company informing them that within 30 days, or by December 15, 191;81 they will be asked <br />to cease the operation and use of their incinerator until they have a complete plan showi <br />possible changes which would make the incinerator more efficient. After the said date of <br />December 15, they will be asked to dispose of cobs by hauling them to the city dump. <br />A resolution passed by the Common Council was presented to the Board wherein they <br />asked the cooperation of the railroads now using coal -buying engines within the limits of <br />the City of South Bend to convert their equipment to oil burAng engines. This was ordere <br />filed. <br />A contract between the City of South Bend and the Rieth-Riley Construction company <br />was approved by the Board for the paving of Sibley Avenue from the West line of Wilber <br />Street to the East line of College Street under improvement resolution No. 2580. Also <br />a. Maintenance bond and a performance bond for the above. <br />PARKING TEETER DEPARTMENT: Joseph Bliley was appointed as a collector for the Parking <br />Meter Department effective November 16, 19L,8 at a salary of $250.00 per month. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: Mir. Melton 0. Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters <br />pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />CEMETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters- pertaining <br />to his department were discussed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned <br />at 10 : 00 A.
