Siemens Industry, Inc.
Executive Summary
Siemens Building Technologies is fully committed to fostering the growth and utilization of Minority and Women -
owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs) and endeavors to make this a cornerstone of the Guaranteed Energy
Savings Contract with the Department of Venues Parks and Arts.
Siemens is committed to working with the City of South Bend, Indiana to find and contract with local certified
MWBEs and to assist in the business development and capacity building of local certified companies. Siemens
believes partnering with diverse local companies allows the opportunities to stay within the Local Community.
The local companies work, live, and thrive in their own community. When the opportunities stay within the local
Community, the companies hire local residents and those residents spend their money in the local Community,
driving economic growth, and striving for Community improvement and empower everyone to thrive. As the local
residents and local companies invest in their own Community and they see it grow, it creates a sustainable
growth.
Siemens strongly believes we have a tangible and realistic approach to helping the City of South Bend achieve
part of its triple bottom line model of "optimizing economy, environment, and equity".
Siemens Commitment: to Diversity — Starting from Within
Siemens strongly believes that the commitment to MWBE and contributions toward a diverse market place
starts with diversity within our company. As an organization, we must value diversity and drive it through our
processes, systems, and company culture before we can effectively address it in the community. In 2010,
Siemens established the position of Chief Diversity Officer with a charter of educating the company about
Diversity and driving it through all aspects of our culture. Management encouraged the formation of Local
Diversity Councils, which have been embraced by the employees. Siemens is a global company with business
presence in more than 200 countries and employees from 169 nationalities. Our Managing Board is 28.5%
women, which is a good reflection of Siemens' makeup of our global workforce. At Siemens, three distinct
generations (Boomers, Gen X, and Gen Y) work together to foster a company that has over 80 different active
diversity networks which all value diversity as the inclusion and collaboration of different thinking, backgrounds,
experience, expertise, and individual qualities across all organizational levels and dimensions. "Five different
fingers, one strong hand". While Siemens is a global company, the Siemens Building Technologies division has
more than 100 Branches or field offices throughout the country.
Since 2004, Siemens has won more than 100 Diversity -related awards. Recently, Siemens was named a 2016
Top Veteran -Friendly Company by the US Veterans Magazine, along with accolades such as Military Friendly
Award, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Freedom Award. In 2016, two Siemens executives
received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award, presented by the
Pennsylvania Committee for ESGR. The Global Summit of Women, an annual gathering of 1000 participants,
predominantly women, meet to discuss global concerns and exchange concerns on improving corporate
management and the economy. Three of Siemens powerful women (CEO of Urban Transport at Siemens
Mobility, CFO of Siemens Poland, and CDO of Siemens AG) spoke at the event, making a case for including
women in the Digital Age. In the United States, Siemens was represented by a few employees at the first White
House Summit on the United State of Women, which took place in July 2016.
It is with this type of diverse background and engrained company -wide emphasis on diversity that Siemens
embraces that guides us in our partnerships with MWBEs. Siemens strongly believes that in order to partner
with diverse companies, everyone involved must view the interaction and partnership as a journey, not merely a
checkbox activity in a process or due to a contractual obligation. Siemens recognized the importance of Supplier
Diversity and proactively invested in a dedicated resource for Government Project Sourcing, including public -
facing projects. The decisions to host Outreach Events and perform General Interest Solicitations are not part of
any contractual obligations; Siemens sees the need for us to meet and introduce ourselves to the diverse
business community. Siemens believes that it makes good business sense to partner with diverse local
Building Technologies Division
6200 Technology Center Drive Tel: 317-293-8880
Indianapolis, IN 46278 Fax: 317-293-0374
