368 <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Melton 0. Brannan; Street Commi s: ioner, was present and matters <br />pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />Mr. Richard Nuessel came before the Board to discuss a plan for building benches <br />on the streets, in the parinray, at bus stops. The Board discussed the proposition but <br />no action was taken. <br />CEMETERY DEPART1,1ENIT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski' Sexton, was present and matters pertain- <br />ing to his department were discussed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board' the meeting was adjourne <br />at 10:00 ,A.M. Mlinutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. Lauber Co. <br />75.00 <br />Schilling's Inc. <br />1.27 <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest <br />Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present <br />and matters per- <br />taining to his department were <br />discussed. <br />The Board approved limited <br />no parking <br />signs on Grant, Carlisle, <br />Phillipa and Warren <br />Streets from T.estern Avenue to <br />Huron Street. <br />Mr. 1-1iller was authorized to attend a meeting of the Governor's Safety Council <br />in LaFayette at Purdue University on April 16, 1948 and also to attend a meeting of the <br />Illinois Governor'd Safety Council in Peoria on April 19 and 20th. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractor's Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Phillip <br />Melling, Joseph Szerencse, Ellis Construction Compan and Ray E. Bigler, <br />Excavation Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Clifford Kinyon and the Solli.tt <br />Construction Company. <br />A petition to vacate the first alley Bast of `dernone Street from Dubail Street to <br />Dayton Street was referred to the city Plan Commission for investigation and report. <br />Aaron Katz, 2925 1,ishawaka Avenue, was granted permission to install a 24 inch <br />grating in the sidewalk in front of his building to replace an existing manhole <br />Mr. Hamm came before the Board to request permission to move a building from 313 <br />South LaFayette Boulevard down LaFayette to riverside Drive. The Board asked that he <br />get some additional information and then return with the request. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr, Melton 0. Brannan, Street Commissioner, was present and matters <br />pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />A performance bond, presented by the Standard Oil Company for asphalt -for the Stree <br />Departments was approved by the Board, and the clerk of the Board was directed to retur <br />the certified check which accompanied the bid of said company. <br />A letter was received from Joseph Doczy of 1754 North O'Brien Street, requesting <br />that the Street Department dump street sweepings and other suitable fill on his property <br />at Dollar Lake and continue until he sends a written notice to desist. The Board <br />approved his request and directed Mr. Brannan so to do. <br />The Clerk of the Board was directed to advertise for several ieces of equipment <br />for the Street Department with bids to be returnable on May 3, 1949. <br />C� <br />• <br />0 <br />• <br />The Clerk of the Board was also directed to advertise for 3 coupes for the Health ! • <br />Department on which three old cars are to be traded in. These bids are returnable on <br />May 3, 1948. <br />
