<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on 'iVionday, August ll,
<br />1947 at 8:30 A.M, All members were present. ITinutes of the.last meeting were read
<br />and approved. Salary claims in the amount of ��15,444.97 were approved and ,ordered
<br />paid. There were no claims of suppliers to be approved.
<br />TRAFFIC DEPARTIvI ENT: The Traffic Department being in need of a paint marking, mach-
<br />ine, the Clerk was directed to write to Dealers for bids for same.
<br />• iJENGII�'ERING DEPARTM NT: Contractorts Bonds were approved and ordered. filed for
<br />;Carl J. Reinke and Son and the Reed_ Construction Company.

<br />An Excavation bond_ tiaras approved and ordered filed for the Reed Construction
<br />If Company.

<br />it The Leslie Colvin Construction Company was granted permission to occupy a
<br />!part of Main and Wayne Streets for the construction of the Indiana Bell Telephone
<br />Company building from August 15, 1947 to October 15, 1947.

<br />The City Plan Commission indicated by letter that they approve the vacation
<br />of the first alley ':lest of Ironwood Road running South from Ewing Avenue to the
<br />• Alley South of Ewing. Avenue and the City Engineer was directed to prepare a,
<br />vacation resolution.
<br />A petition to vacate Hill Street from the North Line of Ilapoleon Street to
<br />the South line of Peashway Street and from the North line of Peashzvay Street to
<br />the South line of Angela Avenue, vrhich had been presented to the City Plan Com-
<br />mission at their meeting of August 7, and on which no action was taken, was,dis-
<br />cussed by the Board but no action was taken pending further investigation.
<br />STREET DEPARTL NT: I,Ir, Casimer Balka, Street Commissioner, was present and matters
<br />,pertaining to his department were discussed.

<br />Irene Kolman, RoseHarringer and Lottie Borkowski, representing Pose 3194,
<br />• !!Veterans of. Foreign Wars, came before the Board to ask permission to close Grant
<br />Street from Huron to Ford Street on August 23, 1947 from 6:30 to 12:00 midnight
<br />lfor an open house. Permission was granted.
<br />The Board approved a payment to be made to Andrew Toth of "6,018.80 as,the
<br />balance due Mr. Toth on his contract for drawing the plans and specifications for
<br />,the Street Department Building.

<br />I>ir. Howell came before the Board to ask permission to barricade Monroe and
<br />(Edgewater Drive, Arch Avenue and Edgewater Drive and Bronson and River Avenues,
<br />� for a boat race and show. The Bcard took the matter under advisement.
