318 <br />August 4, 1947 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Vilorks was held on Monday, August 4, 1947 <br />at 8:30 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. Claims of the following suppliers in the amount of $1,295.95 were approved <br />and ordered paid: <br />Arrow Towel & Linen Service 10.55 J. Lover Company .50 Vest Side Hardware Co. 6.85 � <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTI NT: Mr, I,iiller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters pertaining <br />to his department were discussed. <br />The City Council referred a petition to the Board, with 62 signatures,, requesting <br />that Marquette Avenue between Angela Boulevard and I.�'i chigan Street be made a Boulevard. <br />This was referred to the Traffic Engineer for investigation and report. � <br />A letter was drafted and sent to the United States Gypsum. Company and the Crane <br />Company indicating that the City Engineer and the Traffic Engineer had made an invest - <br />CD <br />igation of the premises and decided that there was ample space within- their buildings <br />to accomodate their trucks and trailers. Therefore the Board found it necessary to <br />set December 1, 1947 at the last day on iahich.they would be permitted to load and un- <br />load in such a way as has been practiced in the past. After that date, the entire <br />truck -trailer units must be off city property while loading and unloading, <br />ENGINEPERING DEPARTMENT: Excavation Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Qlalter <br />Sharp and Riggs Plumbing and Heating Company. <br />! <br />A.Contractoris bond in the amount of $1,000.00 was approved and ordered filed <br />• <br />for Iffalter V. ffegenka. <br />A petition was received asking for the vacation of the first alley North of <br />Lincoln 'clay West from. Brookfield Street East to the alley lafest of College Street all <br />adjacent to,and in the rear of Lots 57-58-59.and 60 in Augustine's Addition to the <br />City of South Bend. This was referred to the City Plan Commission for investigation <br />and report. <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for a car for the engineering department <br />and only one bid having been received, it was opened and read as follows: <br />Scherman-Schaus-Freeman Co.
