This <br />was referred to P,Ir. 'Miller and he was directed to trrite to the State Iighway Commission <br />informing them of the petition. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractorts bonds in the amount of $1;000.00 each were <br />a`ppio3737.. `ancC or ere iled for E. T Tranberg, Thos. L. Hickey, and Steven Sharkey. <br />A performance bond in the amount of p5000.00 .rras filed by Virgil H. Reed and <br />Homer L. Short doing business as Reedts Construction Company, Mishawaka, Indiana. <br />STREET DEPARBIENT: Mr. Casimer Balka, Street Commissioner, was _present and matters <br />pertaining to =s department were discussed. <br />CE[JETERY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertain- <br />ing Eo hEs epar ment vrere discussed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourne <br />at 10:00 A.1,1. <br />A TEST <br />e r. <br />April 21, 1947 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public ',',forks was held on Monday, April 21, 1947 <br />at 8:30 A.1',. All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. The following claims in the amount of ti?534.02 were approved and ordered <br />paid: <br />Frank Kettering 30.06 Kenneth J. Tubbs y�503.96 <br />TRAFFIC DEPARUMENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters <br />pertaining o. nzs, epartment were discussed. <br />Mr. Miller presented plans for traffic light installations at the intersections <br />of Diamond and Blaine Avenues and Angela Boulevard which all converge at Portage Avenue; <br />which will operate at the will of pedestrians and motorists alike by push buttons and <br />also a set of out -of -the ordinary stop and go lightsat 17ashington Avenue and Olive <br />Street which will operate normally except that when the gates are down and the flasher <br />signal is warning of the approach of a train over the adjacent New York Central right <br />of way, the traffic lights will also flash red in all directions, permitting progress <br />east west and north, but not south across the tracks. The Board approved both sets - <br />of plans, <br />Mr. -.Qualls informed the Board that a traffic signal at the northwest corner of <br />Sample and Main streets had been hit by an automobile, driver unknown, and damaged. <br />The signal was repaired and placed back in service at a cost of ?25.85. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A Contractorts bond in the amount of �1,000.00 was approved <br />=L ordered z e Tor Harry Kemble. <br />The Board approved an easement to the City of South Bend, the right to construct <br />and maintain a storm water sewer for the purpose -of draining Sylvan Glen Street under <br />lots 50 and 10 in block B, Bercliff Estate, a strip approximbately 10 feet wide. <br />Vacation Resolution No. 2555 <br />This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by <br />the Board of Public works for the vacation of the alley North of Howard Street from <br />Francis Street to the first alley E' st under vacation resolution ITo. 2555. The Clerk <br />of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remonstrators having <br />appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, <br />seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally adopted and the <br />said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment'' <br />roll covering the assessments of benefits and the awards of damages to the surrounding <br />properties. <br />0- <br />L1 <br />4 <br />
