<br />STREET DEPARTIrIENT: Mr. Casimer Balka, Street Commissioner, was present and matters
<br />pertaining to TEsdepartment were discussed.
<br />Mr. Balka informed the Board that an offer had been submitted by the Chicago,
<br />South Shore and South Bend Railroad to lease the land formerly owned by the City
<br />and used by the City Street Department, for a period of one year from August 1, 1946
<br />to July 31, 1947 for the sum.of 1,,!,�p400.00. The Board accepted the offer.

<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public 17orks was held on 14onday, August, 12,
<br />1946 at 8:30 A.Ml. All members were present. I:Iinutes of the last meeting w ere read
<br />and approved. Salary claims in the amount of ;13,135.00 were approved and ordered
<br />paid. Claims of the following suppliers in the amount of y1,468.12 were approved
<br />and ordered paid:

<br />TRAFFIC DEPARTItlENT: 1,1r. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per-
<br />taining to his apartment were discussed.
<br />1:1r. Muller was authorized to go to Indianapolis on August 14th and 15th to discuss
<br />matters with the State Highway Commission.
<br />BUS ROUTES: Yr, Sid H. Cohen, a representative of Studebaker Union, Local -No. 5, came
<br />before to ask for a change in the bus routes. The busses now proceed South
<br />on LaFayebte Boulevard to Sample Street, ;'lest on Sample Street to Franklin Street and
<br />South on Franklin Street. The proposed change is to proceed South -on LaFayette Boul-
<br />evard to Broadway, '."lest on Broadway to Franklin and South on Franklin. The change is
<br />asked because of the traffic conditions on Franklin. -_Street which is a narrow street
<br />and the inability of busses to enter and leave Franklin Street to and from Sample Street
<br />when the heavy traffic is moving through this intersection from the factories. The
<br />Board, upon receiving a written request from the Indiana Transit Company, will approve
<br />the change as indicated.
<br />ENGINEERING DEPARTIFIETT: A Contractor's bond was approved and ordered fildd__for the
<br />C. A. 7ordazi Company.
<br />An Excavation bond was approved and ordered filed for Fred Spromberg,
<br />The Board directed the Clerk of the Board to advertise for bids for thepaving
<br />of Hamilton Street returnable on the 3rd day of September, 1946.
<br />Notice is hereby given by the Board of Public :forks of the City of South Bend,
<br />Indiana, that sealed proposals will be received by it, at its office in the City Hall
<br />on the 3rd day of September, 1946 at 11:88 A.1i. for the following described public
<br />improvement:
<br />Improvement Resolution No. 2548 for the paving of Hamilton Street from the West line
<br />of Portage Avenue to the `:-lest line of Brookfield Street.
<br />All work done in the making of said described public improvement shall be in
<br />accordance with the temis and conditions of the improvement resolution, as numbered,
<br />and the detail plans, profiles, drawings and specifications which are on file and
<br />may be seen in the office of the Board of Public Forks, City Hall, South Bend, Indiana.
<br />The bidders, in submitting proposals to make said described public improvement
<br />must accompany each bid with a certified check in the sum of not less than 10 o as
<br />evidence of good faith that the successful bidder will execute, within ten days from
<br />the acceptance of proposals, contracts and bonds satisfactory to the said Board to do
<br />the work of making said improvement. A failure of the successful bidders to enter
<br />into such contracts and bonds upon the acceptance of such proposal will forfeit the
