266 STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Casimer Balka, Street Commissioner, was present and matters pertaining to s department were discussed. _ Mr. Balka informed the Board that an offer had been submitted by the Chicago, South Shore and South Bend Railroad to lease the laud formerly owned by the City and used by the City Street Department, for a period of one year from August 1, 1946 to July 31, 1947 for the stun . of �'400.00. The Board accepted the offer. CEMETERY DEPR RTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters per- taining to his department were discussed. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 A.11I. August 12, 1946 A regular meeting of the Board of Public 'forks was held on Iionday, August, 12, 1946 at 8:30 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Salary claims in the amount of 13,135.00 were approved and ordered paid. Ernest Killer, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per- taining o s apartment were discussed. Ir. biller was authorized to go to Indianapolis on August 14th and 15th to discuss matters with the State Highway Commission. BUS ROUTES: TIr. Sid H. Cohen, a representative of Studebaker Union, Local: -No. 5, came .before ore e Board to ask for a change in the bus routes. The busses now proceed South on LaFayebte Boulevard to Sample Street, "Test on Sample Street to Franklin Street and South on Franklin Street. The proposed change is to proceed South -on LaFayette Boul- evard to Broadway, 1"lest on Broadway to Franklin and South on Franklin. The change is asked because of the traffic conditions on Fr.anklih--Street which is a narrow street and the inability of busses to enter and leave Franklin Street to and from. Sample Street when the heavy traffic is moving through this intersection from the factories. The Board, upon receiving a written request from the Indiana Transit Co#pany, will approve the change as indicated. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A Contractors s bond was approved and ordered filed --for the C. A. Jordan Company. An Ijxcavation bond was approved and ordered filed for Fred Spromberg, The Board directed the dlerk of the Board to advertise for bids for thepaving of Hamilton Street returnable on the 3rd day of September, 1946. Notice is hereby given by the Board of Public ':'forks of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that sealed proposals will be received by it, at its office in the City Hall on the 3rd day of September, 1946 at 11:89 A.11. for the following described public improvement: Improvement Resolution No. 2548 for the paving of Hamilton Street from the West line of Portage Avenue to the "lest line of Brookfield Street. All work done in the making of said described public improvement shall be in accordance with the terns and conditions of the improvement resolution, as numbered, and the detail plans, profiles, drawings and specifications which are on file and may be seen in the office of the Board of Public ':orks, City Hall, South Bend, Indiana. The bidders, in submitting proposals to make said described public improvement must accompany each bid with a certified check in the surd of not less than 10 o as evidence of good faith that the successful bidder will execute, within ten days from the acceptance of proposals, contracts and bonds satisfactory to the said Board to do the work of making said improvement. A failure of the successful bidders to enter into such contracts and bonds upon the acceptance of such proposal will forfeit the • • • • • •
