<br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT., Petitions were received by property owners on Kendall Street
<br />between Ewing and Calvert Street, and presented.by 'Halter Arnold, asking that Kendall
<br />street be paved. These petitions were referred to the Engineering Department.for inves-
<br />tigation and report. A report is to be made to Mr. Arnold of the necessary engineering
<br />data for improvements.
<br />. This being the date set for receiving bids -for the collection of garbage in the
<br />City of South Bend, and it now being 10:00 A.M.., the time set for opening the bids,
<br />Mr.nWilliams opened the bid presented by Mr. Frank Palmer, representing Blue Lines, Inc.
<br />Once a week collection during .the entire year, the amount of .41,916.00,;-once.a week.
<br />for -the year excepting during the months of July, August and September, when there will
<br />be a bi-weekly collection, for the amount of $4,500.00 additional. After the opening
<br />of the bid, it was indicated that an error had been made in setting .down the amount and
<br />the -bide for for once a week collection was changed by the bidder in writing to $41,626.
<br />The•Board took the matter under advisement for decision on or before August 14, 1944,
<br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest H. Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters
<br />pertaining to his.department were discussed.
<br />CEMETERY DEPARTIVIENT Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertain-

<br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll
<br />showing the award of damages and the assessment of benefits in the matter of the vaca-
<br />tion. of the alley between Jennings Avenue and Dean Street from South Michigan westward jj •
<br />to the North -South alley between Michigan and Main Streets, under vacation resolution !'
<br />No. .2528.
<br />In the above assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrance
<br />were filed, the Clerk of the Board ssubmitted proofs of publication of notices and same
<br />were found sufficient, and the Board, being fully advised in .the premises, therefore
<br />finds that the several lots and parcels of land .have been benefitted and damaged in the
<br />amounts shown on said roll. The Board, therefor-e, decides to take .action on said assess
<br />ment. roll, and declares same in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without
<br />modification and the -proceedings closed, and the.alley vacated upon receipt of the
<br />amount of benefit assessments from the various property owners so benefitted and all
<br />proceedings had with reference to said alley vacation are.hereby sustained.
<br />GARBAGE DEPARTMENT: No decision having been reached in the matter of the garbage con-
<br />tract the matter was again taken under advi.seiqlent.
<br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: Mr. Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters per-

<br />CEYETARY DEPARTMENT: Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertain-
