154 <br />ENGINEERING DEPARUMEHT: A contractor l s bond in the amount of $1, 000.00 was approved for <br />Central {excavators, Inc., of 302 East Otta,,ra Street, Logansport, Indiana and was ordered <br />filed. <br />The Board received carbon copies of two letters written to -the Reith-Riley Construction <br />Company o' Goshen, Indiana, one directing them to proceed immediately with the construe-!! <br />tion of the Chippewa Avenue access„ road signed by, Mr. "Jilliams, and one stating that due, <br />to the,.inability to obtain tar for prime on the Chippewa Avenue project, Ind. 12-137, <br />the Reith-Kiley Company is authorized to use cut back asphalt, applied in two applica- j <br />tions,, using; extreme care to, see that the soil cement is thoroughly cleaned before the <br />first application. The change to cut back asphalt shall not incur any additional ex- <br />pense to the City or to the, Federal rorl�s �gancy., This letter was signed by 'tlm. S. <br />I,Ioore,. Engineer. i <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on' the assessment roll showing, the <br />award of damages and the assess_ent of benefits in the matter of the vacation of the <br />alley South of Huron Street from Lake Street to the Alley '.nest of Lake Street and <br />including a 5 foot out off on the Northwest corner of Lot. �63 and from the' "lest line <br />of the„alley West of Lake Street to Falcon Street and including a 5 foot cut off on the <br />Northeast corner of Lot #61 under vacation,resolution No. 2527. <br />In the above assessment roll, no remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances <br />werd filed, the Clerk of the board submitted proofs of publication of notices and name <br />were found sufficient, and the Board, being fully advised in the premises, therefore, <br />finds that the several lots and parcels of land have been benefitted and damaved in the <br />amounts shorn on said roll: The Board, therefore,, decides to take action on said assess;; <br />ment roll, and declares sake in all things ratified, confirmed and approved without <br />modification and the preceedings closed, and the alley vacated upon receipt of the <br />amount of benefit assessments from the various property owners so benefitted, and all <br />proceedings had with reference to said alley vacation are hereby sustained. <br />TRAFFIC � 7 . ConLmissioner, was present <br />and matters <br />pertaining to his department <br />were discussed. <br />Mr. Zmudzinski informed <br />the Board that the railroad crossings of the Pennsylvania <br />Railroad were in bad condition, <br />and the Clerk <br />of the Board was directed to <br />smite to the <br />Penns-�rlvania and request <br />them to repair their <br />crossings. <br />Mr. Zmudzinski also informed the Board that some contractors have been making <br />excavations in the parkway of streets and leaving them open at night without botabing <br />and barricading them, in which instances, the Street Department is called to barridade <br />the opening. The Board instructed DIr.
