Bill No. Resolution No. 4k — I A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,INDIANA, PUBLICLY COMMENDING AND HONORING THE SOUTH BEND ELKS LODGE 235 ON THEIR 125TH ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS, the South Bend Elks Lodge 235 was chartered on June 12, 1892, the first Lodge Building was located where the South Bend Tribune Lunch Room is currently located,and WHEREAS,the mission of the Elks is to inculcate the principles of Charity,Justice,Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its Members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellowship; to perpetuate itself as a good fraternal organization,and provide for its government,and WHEREAS, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America will serve the people and communities through benevolent programs, demonstrating that Elks Care and Elks Share,and WHEREAS, the South Bend Elks 235 since its founding has inducted over 9000 members; including,seven(7)South Bend Mayors,Schulyer Colfax the 17th Vice President of the United States,and University of Notre Dame Coach Knute Rockne,and WHEREAS,throughout its tenure the South Bend Elks Lodge 235 has contributed to the betterment of the South Bend community and it's residents in enumerable and invaluable ways;including the following projects to name a few: • Founding and Continuous Donor to the Robert E.Miller Veterans Center • Rebuilding Together of St.Joe County(Christmas in April) • Supporting Local Scholarships • Presenting Sponsor of the Elks National Hoop Shoot Contest,and • Continuous support of the Indiana University and Purdue University Cancer Research Centers,the Hope Rescue Mission and the Michiana Five for the Homeless initiative. Now,therefore,be it resolved by the Common Council of the City South Bend,Indiana,as follows: Section I. On behalf of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council hereby publicly commends the South Bend Elks Lodge 235, on reaching its One-Hundred Twenty-Fifth (125`h)Anniversary. Section II. The Common Council wishes the Elks Lodge 235 and all of its members continued growth and prosperity as it begins another year of serving our community. _ Section III.
