Councilmember John Voorde seconded the motion <br /> which carried by a voice vote of eight(8) ayes. <br /> SPECIAL BUSINESS <br /> 17-24 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br /> OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br /> PUBLICLY COMMENDING AND HONORING <br /> THE 7TH GRADE STUDENTS OF NAVARRE <br /> INTERMEDIATE CENTER ON A SUCCESSFUL <br /> CAMPAIGN TO ADVANCE EQUALITY AND <br /> PROMOTE HEALTHY FOOD OPTIONS FOR <br /> ALL STUDENTS IN THE SOUTH BEND <br /> COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION <br /> Councilmember Regina Williams-Preston, 838 North Elmer Street, South Bend, IN, served as <br /> the presenter of this bill. Councilmember Williams-Preston called to the podium Monique Love, <br /> a teacher at Navarre, and read for the Council and public the text of the resolution. <br /> Monique Love, 7th Grade Language Arts Teacher at Navarre Intermediate Center, 4719 West <br /> Sample Street, South Bend, IN, stated that this started with a book called Fire from the Rock by <br /> Sharon Draper, a story of historical fiction surrounding the events of the Little Rock Nine. Ms. <br /> Love explained that in the midst of learning about the Civil Rights Movement, she asked her <br /> students for what they would protest. Their response was that they would fight for a better school <br /> lunch. She stated, I guarantee you if you don't eat it, somebody is going to move. I didn't know <br /> 1 <br />
