Mr. Boecher stated, The project has changed a little bit going from one-hundred and twenty
(120)to one-hundred and forty (140)rooms. There was the thought we were going to incorporate
reception and the front desk in the former Hall of Fame but Marriott stated that is not acceptable.
This was also at first a very linear project, but is now more L-shaped that allows more pedestrian
traffic. It did take some additional time to get it underway and get the design completed. It took
months to get re-approved by Marriott after the change. In 2017, this hotel will be open. There
will be no request for another extension.
Committeemember Smith asked, Are there any plans to sell the Hall of Fame?
Mr. Boecher replied, Absolutely not.
Councilmember John Voorde noted the backside brush growth has garnered complaints from a
few citizens with regard to its aesthetic.
Committee Chair Ferlic opened the floor to members of the public wishing to speak in favor of
or in opposition to the legislation. There were none. He then turned the floor back to the
Committee for further discussion or main motions.
Committeemember Kelly made a motion to send Bill No. 17-21 to the full Council with a
favorable recommendation. Committeemember Davis seconded the motion which carried by a
voice vote of four(4) ayes and one (1) nay(Committeemember Smith).
