R E S O L U T I O N <br /> WHEREAS, the year 1963 marks the One Hundredth Anniversary of <br /> the Negro's Emancipation by Proclamation of President Abraham Lincoln, and <br /> said anniversary has been duly noted by President John F. Kennedy; and, <br /> WHEREAS, there is presently being held at McCormack Place in <br /> Chicago, Illinois (a Century of Progress Exposition), which depicts the <br /> contribution of Negro Citizens to the cultural, scientific, political, and <br /> civic life of America for the past 100 years; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Saturday, August 31, 1963, has been declared "INDIANA DAY" <br /> by the officials of said exposition and due Proclamation has been made by <br /> Governor Matthew E. Welsh; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the 100 voice choir of the St. John Missionary Baptist <br /> Church of 1601 Liston Street, South Bend, Indiana, pastored by Reverend <br /> Bernard L. White, has been invited to and will be present on said date to <br /> represent the citizens of our great State of Indiana, in the observance of <br /> said "INDIANA DAY"; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the appearance and performance of said choir will reflect <br /> much credit upon our City of South Bend, Indiana, as well as constituting <br /> another Civic contribution. <br /> THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, That they hereby extend congratulations and best wishes <br /> to the St. John Missionary Baptist Church and its Pastor for their continued <br /> success in this and other similar efforts in the service of God and our Country. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Resolution be spread upon the records <br /> of the Council and duly authenticated copies thereof be sent to the St. John <br /> Missionary Baptist Church and the Officials of d N ro Cent y of r gress <br /> exposition in Chicago, Illinois. <br /> DATED this 26th day of August, 1963. <br /> �Y136 L-1 <br /> .o <br />
