RESOLUTION NO 65-64 <br /> y1HERkS, The Common Council_ of the City of South Bend recognizes <br /> there is a need for equal opportunity in housing in the <br /> City of South Bend for all people regardless of race, <br /> color, religion, national origin or ancestry of such <br /> person or group of persons and, <br /> 17HEREkS, the City of South Bend recognizes the undesirability of <br /> discrimination and segregation in housing, <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the Common Council <br /> of the City of South Bend, recognizing its obligation to <br /> the Community of South Bend, does on this day, urgently <br /> desire that, all Realtors, actively enforce their recent <br /> statement of principles regarding the sale and rental of <br /> properties and, <br /> LET IT FURTHER BE RESOLVED,that each lending institution <br /> make it be known its intent to further equal opportunity <br /> in housing and financial assistance for purchasing of <br /> housing regardless of race, color, religion, national <br /> origin, or ancestry of such person or group of persons and, <br /> LET IT FURTHER BE RESOLVED, that all other persons actively <br /> oppose discrimination against any person or persons because <br /> of race, color, religion, national origin, or ancestry of such <br /> person or group of persons in the sale, rental or lease of <br /> any real property or in the financial assistance pertaining <br /> thereto and, <br /> LET IT FURTHER BE RESOLVED, that we appeal to all clergymen, <br /> religious groups and members of all churches to work in the <br /> community with a program of education, prayer and evangelism <br /> to dispel unfair and discriminatory treatment of a fellow <br /> h�A:nan being. <br /> LET IT FURTHER BE RESOLVED, that the Common Council of the <br /> City of South Bend will diligently nut forth further effort to: <br /> (1) Instigate such other desirable programs necessary to <br /> eliminate discrimination against any person or persons <br /> because of race, color, religion, national origin, or <br /> ancestry of such person or group of persons in the sale, <br /> rental, or lease of any real property or in the financial <br /> assistance thereto. <br /> (2) Remove sub-standard, unhealthful, unsafe, unsanitary <br /> and overcrowded living conditions resulting from dis- <br /> crimination in the sale, rental and financing of housing <br /> (3 ) All grievances of discriminatory practices in housing <br /> in the City of South Bend be brought to the direct attention <br /> of the Chairman of the Housing Committee of the Common <br /> Council of the City of South Bend. <br />
