RESOLUTION NO. 93--65 <br /> RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF HOUSE <br /> OF REPRESENTATIVES BILL 1229 NOW PENDING <br /> BEFORE THE INDIANA STATE LEGISLATURE <br /> WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana <br /> is aware of the fact that some two hundred (200) residents have <br /> been victimized by second mortgage operations carried on in the <br /> South Bend area; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Common Council is desirous of protecting the <br /> citizens of South Bend against those companies or individuals <br /> loaning money at usurious rates of interest; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Common Council has been advised that House of <br /> Representatives Bill 1229 would correct the abuses now prevalent <br /> in the second mortgage brokerage area and would put a stop to the <br /> usurious lending by which so many of our residents have been <br /> financially hurt. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, that we wish to make of record our <br /> strong support of House of Representatives Bill 1229 , and urge its <br /> enactment by the Indiana State Legislature,before which it is now <br /> pending . , <br /> Edwin T. Smith <br /> Member of Common Council <br /> The above resolution was unanimously passed by a vote of <br /> 8-0 , one member being out of the city, counted absent, and there- <br /> fore unable to vote, in a public meeting held January 25, 1965 . <br />
