Department of Redevelopment
September 22, 1965
EXCERPTS OF SECTION 110 (c) OF TITLE I
Section 110(c) of Title I , which is the Urban Renewal portion of the Housing
Act of 1949 as amended, covers definition of urban renewal projects. This
section describes.-,n urban renewal project and the general objectives of
elimination and prevention of the development and spread of slums and blight
and covers the activities of clearance and rehabilitation. This section also
discusses residential_ and non-residential development.
Section 110(c) was amended by the "Housing and Urban Development Act of 1965"
(Public Law 89-117) , which was approved by the President on August 10, 1965.
The change now permits 35% of the additional capital grants authorized by
the 1965 Act to be used for "non-residential exception" projects (commercial
and industrial projects) . In 1949 only 10% of capital grants were available
for commercial and industrial projects. The newest change also stipulates
that not less than 10% of Federal grants authorized by the 1965 Act and..
direct rehabilitation loans be made available for projects which involve
primarily Code enforcement and rehabilitation.
From: Federal Laws, Urban Renewal Housing Act of 1949 ,
as Amended through June 30, 1961
