RESOLUTION NO. 120-65 <br /> RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF <br /> A MEDICAL CENTER IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND <br /> INDICATING THE SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT OF <br /> THE CITY ADMINISTRATION FOR SUCH PROGRAM. <br /> WHEREAS, as long ago as 1959, a consultant group under the <br /> Surgeon General of the United States urged Indiana to establish a second <br /> medical school and <br /> WHEREAS, there is evidence that Indiana already faces a severe <br /> shortage of doctors, dentists, nurses, medical research personnel and <br /> technicians and <br /> WHEREAS, this shortage will be most critical in Northern Indiana, <br /> the center of the state's population growth and economic expansion and <br /> WHEREAS, Northern Indiana is not now adequately served by the <br /> existing state medical center in Indianapolis and <br /> j WHEREAS, Northern Indiana has the two prerequisites for a <br /> medical center, namely a large population and a university with strong <br /> graduate and research programs and <br /> WHEREAS, the Committee on Higher Education in Northern Indiana is <br /> working diligently to bring about the establishment of a second state medical <br /> center at a central Northern Indiana location near the University of Notre <br /> Dame and <br /> WHEREAS, Notre Dame has expressed complete willingness to co-operate <br /> with a state medical center which would have enormous social and economic <br /> impact on all of Northern Indiana now <br /> THEREFORE, be it resolved by the South Bend Common Council that the <br /> City of South Bend and all of its citizens stand ready to assist in the Northern <br /> Indiana Medical Center Project and they urge the administrative, legislative <br /> and educational officials of the State of Indiana to take prompt action to <br /> make the Northern Indiana Medical Center a reality. <br /> I <br /> ember of the Commo Council <br /> Ist & 2nd READING -�- ��L�D '� II� ►t� <br /> COMfiMTTEE OF THE WHOLE <br /> PUBLIC HEARING — y NOV � <br /> 3rd READING <br /> NOT AtPRBYED 1' THRYN L.
