South Shore <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 218-69 <br /> RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF <br /> THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br /> AUGUST 25 , 1969 <br /> WHEREAS, the CHICAGO SOUTH SHORE AND SOUTH BEND RAILROAD <br /> (hereinafter called the "RAILROAD" ) has for many years past operated <br /> its trains into the City of South Bend along and over the streets of <br /> South Bend, and <br /> VMREAS, the City of South Bend is experiencing population <br /> growth and increased vehicular traffic along and upon its streets, and <br /> WHEREAS, said increased vehicular traffic is complicated and <br /> made more hazardous by the presence of the RAILROAD'S tracks across and <br /> along the streets of South Bend and the operation of the RAILROAD'S <br /> trains along said tracks, and <br /> WHEREAS, it is the belief and conviction of the COMMON COUNCIL <br /> of the City of South Bend that the traffic problems of the City and the <br /> congestion ipon the streets over which the RAILROAD operates its trains <br /> will be improved and lessened by the removal of the tracks and the rail <br /> traffic thereon, <br /> BE IT, THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the COMMON COUNCIL that it <br /> request and hereby does request that the RAILROAD terminate its passen- <br /> ger trains at a point nearer the westerly limits of the City, and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the RAILROAD be requested to re- <br /> move its tracks as they =,i exist in and along LaSalle Street from <br /> LaPorte Avenue on the west to the point where said tracks enter the RAIL- <br /> ROAD'S coach yard on the east, and backfill the slot created by such re- <br /> moval, and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the RAILROAD be requested to move <br /> its coach yard, passenger station and related facilities to a point <br /> nearer the westerly limits of the City, and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the COMMON COUNCIL does hereby <br /> support the petition of the RAILROAD to the Public Service Commission <br /> of Indiana requesting permission and authority to accomplish the aims <br /> and objectives of this resolution. <br /> COMMON C.
