Gammon <br /> City Clerk, City of South Bend <br /> South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br /> Dear Miss Gammon <br /> This will acknowledge and thank you for the resolution adopted by <br /> the Common Council of the City of South Bend expressing support <br /> for the enactment of legislation by the Congress to provide that <br /> the use of a handgun in a robbery or burglary shall constitute a <br /> Federal crime. <br /> As I have consistently maintained the position that we should <br /> attempt to reduce the high incidence of crime committed with the <br /> use of handguns by providing for the establishment and enforcement <br /> of strict penalties rather than laws providing for the registration <br /> or confiscation of handguns, I am in full accord with the sense <br /> of this resolution and will act accordingly in the event a bill to <br /> make the use of a handgun in a robbery or burglary a federal offense <br /> is brought before the House for a vote. <br /> Best wishes. <br /> ,; ncerely, <br /> John 'Myers <br /> li <br />
