RESOLUTION NO. 4LQ 25 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />CONGRATULATING THE JOHN ADAMS HIGH SCHOOL TEAM "NOT NECESSARILY ": <br />THE 2017 INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION STATE CHAMPIONS <br />6A9;111S, one of the many programs sponsored by the Indiana Bar Foundation is the Annual Indiana High <br />School Mock Trial Competition, held on March 4 -5, in Indianapolis, Indiana, included teams from high schools <br />in northeast, northwest and central Indiana; and <br />6)0", the purpose of the Indiana Mock Trial program is "to stimulate and encourage a deeper <br />understanding and appreciation of the American legal system, by providing students the opportunity to learn the <br />judicial system through a hands -on experience. Through mock trials, students gain an understanding of society's <br />approach to dispute resolution and justice through an experiential learning opportunity "; and <br />6M;ez6, the South Bend Common Council is especially proud to congratulate each and every John Adams <br />High School student who participated this year in the Indiana High School Mock Trial Competition. The John <br />Adams' Mock Trial Program has won 18 State Mock Trial Championships and 2 National Titles. The school's <br />program was founded by Mike Szucs and is the largest mock trial program in the country. This year's roster <br />included 87 students, 16 coaches, 2 sponsors, and 1 mentor, and the championship round versus Carmel High <br />School was presided by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven H. On behalf of the residents of the City of South Bend, the South Bend Common Council is proud <br />to publicly commend, honor, and sincerely congratulate all of the John Adams High School students who <br />participated in the 2017 Indiana High School Mock Trial Competition; Principal James Seitz; Teacher Sponsors: <br />Donna Sharp and Nicholas Leatherman; Coaches; all of the volunteer attorneys; and the family and friends who <br />helped to prepare and support all of these competing high school students who have brought honor to themselves, <br />John Adams High School, and the South Bend Community. <br />Section II. The 2017 Indiana High School Mock Trial Competition State Champions: (Not Necessarily) <br />composed of eight (8) John Adams High School students: Amanda Brewster, Ana Marie Broden, Alice <br />Goulding, Elijah Grammer, Brendan Hayner - Slattery, Robert Howard, Douglas Moody and Abi <br />Trzaskowski; and their Coaches: Judge John Broden and Judy Shroyer will now represent the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, in the national competition to be held this May in Hartford, Connecticut. Congratulations for a <br />job extremely well done and good luck at Nationals!! <br />II.
