REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 13, 2017 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana met in the <br />Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday February 13th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. <br />The meeting was called to order by Council President Tim Scott and the Invocation was given by <br />Iman Mohammed Sirajuddin from the Islamic Society of Michiana, and Pledge to the Flag was <br />given. <br />ROLL CALL <br />COUNCIL MEMBERS: <br />Tim Scott <br />Regina Williams- Preston <br />Randy Kelly <br />Josephine Broden <br />Dr. David Varner <br />Oliver J. Councilmember Dr. David Varner seconded the <br />motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />17 -06 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />SUPPORTING THE RENAMING OF THE <br />FORMER MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. BLVD <br />TO CHARLES MARTIN SR. BLVD. <br />Councilmember Karen White, 1912 Malvern Way, South Bend, IN, served as the presenter of <br />this resolution. Councilmember White asked friends and members of the Martin family to join <br />her at the podium, and thereafter she read the resolution to the Council and public. When she was <br />done, Councilmember White opened the floor for comment from the Martin family and friends. <br />Rahman Johnson, 728 Pennsylvania Avenue, South Bend, IN, stated that Charles Martin was his <br />uncle and that he had a great deal of gratitude for the positive role that Mr. Martin played in his <br />life. <br />Gladys Muhammad, 808 North Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN, stated that she was pleased <br />with the Council and Mayor Pete Buttigieg for recognizing Charles Martin and helping with the <br />resolution.
