March 1, 2017 <br />To: Board of Public Works <br />Re: Honorary Street Designation <br />We are asking consideration and ultimately an approval from the city of South Bend- Board of <br />Public Works to honor Miss Gail Brodie, the past president of the LaSalle Park Neighborhood <br />Association. We would like to honor Miss Brodie with an honorary street name change on West <br />Washington Street between Kaley Street (east) and Falcon (west). Ms. Brodie's constant <br />grassroots advocacy and leadership has had a profound effect on the LaSalle Park area <br />affectionally known as the `Lake'. Gail has been a constant voice of reason for the residents <br />living between Meade, Sheridan, Linden and Western Avenue. She served as president and <br />visionary for approximately 20 years being recruited by then council 2°d district representative <br />Charlotte Pfeiffer and under Gail's leadership many projects were envisioned and completed <br />over her tenure. <br />For example: <br />Ms. Brodie advocated and worked to complete the Western Avenue corridor project phase 1 & 2, <br />LaSalle Park plans that named the walking trial after her mother Miss Annette Brodie, the lighted <br />pathway between Falcon and Kaley Streets on West Washington Streets, the most recent <br />extension for the Charles Black Recreational Center that many of our seniors enjoy on a daily <br />basis, the LaSalle Park Neighborhood Association became a 501 C3 federally recognized <br />organization, there were meaningful relationships started with neighborhood stores as it related <br />to loitering and the selling of negative products (single cigarettes), she lead the organization and <br />its members into collaborations with the South Bend Police Department resulting in becoming a <br />
