January 8, 1962 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />January 89 1962 at 10:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the last regular meeting were read and approved. <br />DISMISSAL OF CHARGES ( RALPH MULLINS, POLICE DEPT.) <br />Comes now Chief of Police Harmon and requests that the charges heretofore <br />filed against Ralph Mullins, patrolman on the South Bend Police Department <br />be dismissed. <br />Based on the recommendation of the Chief of Police, said charges are <br />dismissed. <br />RESIGNATION FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT ( RALPH MULLINS) <br />Comes now Orson Harmon, Chief of Police of the South Bend Police Department <br />and informs the Board that said request for dismissal of charges filed <br />against Ralph Mullins was predicated upon dismission of request for <br />resignation by said Ralph Mullins. The Chief of Police now submits <br />copy of the request for resignation of the said Ralph Mullins. <br />Said request, being examined and read, said resignation is accepted, <br />effective January 1, 1962. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( SUB -STANDARD DIVISION) HEARINGS <br />Comes now John Grabarz and reports that the property owned by Mr. Silber, <br />located at 1738 Lincolnway East, presents a problem due to the fact that <br />Mr. Silber has not as yet moved into the new building. However, Mr. <br />Grabarz reported that as soon as Mr. Silber obtains a transfer for his <br />liquor license, arrangements.can be completed to make the required move <br />and demolish the old building now standing. <br />Mr. Grabarz requested a continuation of the hearing, pending the <br />accomplishment of the above transfer of liquor license. <br />Case continued until March 12, 1962. <br />A progress report on property located at 1147 N. Johnson Street was <br />given by Mr. Grabarz and Battalion Chief Downes. No work has been done <br />on this property and Mr. Jerkins who was requested to appear at this <br />meeting the a hearing has failed to do so. <br />Mr. Grabarz reported that Mr. Jerkins had been notified of said hearing. <br />Under these circumstances, it was the decision of the Board that since <br />Mr. Jerkins has not brought property up to standard as previously ordered, <br />Mr. Grabarz was directed to secure bids for demolition. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( REPORT ON LIGHT POLES) <br />Comes now Verner Lane and informs the Board that a pole put out on the <br />curb line to support two flood el9dtric lights at the northwest corner <br />of Lincolnway West and College Street should be removed. <br />The Board, after hearing Mr. Lane, directed him to have said pole removed <br />from public property. <br />WEIGHTS & MEASURES MONTIHLY REPORT <br />A monthly report for December, 1961 was submitted to the Board by Bert <br />Cichowicz, examined and accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT <br />A monthly report from the Building Department for December, 1961 was <br />submitted to the Board, examined, accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />
