October 99 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, October <br />99 1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. Messrs. R. S. Andrysiak and Edwin L. Davies were <br />present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers <br />were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />PERMISSION TO At&.( FIRE DEPARTMENT) SEDAN AND STATION WAGON <br />The Fire Chief was granted permission to place advertisements for bids <br />for one Four Door Sedan and one Four Door Station Wagon, with trade-ins <br />for the use of the Fire Department. Advertisements will be run on October <br />13 and 20, 1961 and sealed bids will be opened at the meeting of the Board <br />on October 23, 1961. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - PERM_ISSION TO ATTEND FIRE INSPECTOR'S SCHOOL <br />The Fire Chief was granted permission to send Battalion Chief Oscar <br />Van Wiele to Purdue University from October 30 to November 3, 1961 to <br />attend a Fire Inspector's School at this time and place. Permission <br />granted. <br />°! TRAFFIC ENGINEER - PERMISSION TO ATTEND NATIONAL CONGRESS <br />Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, was granted permission to attend an <br />Engineering School, National Safety Congress in Chicagq, Illinois on <br />October 18, 1961. <br />SPECIAL POLICE APPOINTMENTS AND BONDS ;r <br />The following wei appointed'Special Police Officers: Allie Ahmen Jojo!s <br />Bond was approved and ordered placed on file. Eugene Robert Benninghoff <br />was appianted Special Police Officer. <br />AUXILIARY POLICE APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for Auxiliary School Patrol for the Police <br />Deja rtment: Helen Eleanore Kasten and Doris Madge Smurr. The applications <br />were ordered placed on file. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT <br />A Report for the month of August, 1961 from the Police Department was <br />accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />_STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT <br />A Street Light Outage Report was accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT MONTTW Y REPORT <br />A Monthly Report for September, 1961 from the Building Department was <br />accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Comes now Mr. John Jerkins, owner of property located at 1147 Johnson <br />Street to show cause why damages caused by_a fire in May, 1961 have not <br />been repaired. Mr. Jerkins advised the Board that he had made a cash <br />settlement with the insurance company prematurely and that actual repairs <br />would be much higher than he had anticipated. He wished an extension of <br />time to investigate and determine whether it would be worth his while <br />to make repairs or whether to have house demolished. <br />Case continued until January 2, 1961 at which time Mr. Jerkins will <br />report on status of property. <br />Batallion Xhief Downes and Mr. Grabarz directed to make investigation of <br />property every two weeks and keep Board informed so that the Board can <br />determine whether the owner is putting forth the proper effort to get <br />property up to standard. <br />
