i <br />July 24, 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, July 24, <br />1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes of the Last <br />regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered <br />paid to the various, suppliers. <br />FIRE CHIEF REQUEST (MEETING) <br />Permission was granted tb the Fire Chief to aheckJ"Snorkel" chassis in <br />Wisconsin on July 25, 269 27, 1961. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for the Fire Department were accepted and ordered <br />placed on file: Edward Jerzak, Jr., Richard A. Fenimore. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT REQUEST ( MEETING) <br />Permission was granted to Verher Lane, Building Commissioner to attend the <br />annual Indiana lns�.ectprs's Association meeting in Elkhart on August 7, 8 <br />and 9, 1961. Permission was also granted for the Director.of Sub -Standard <br />Buildings to attand and also the Chief Plumbing Inspector and the Commercial <br />Building Inspector. <br />SUB -STANDARD DIVISION (HEARINGS) <br />Comes now John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building <br />Department with reference to the following hearings scheduled for this date: <br />With reference to 802 N. Sherman Avenue, owned by Joseph Cherbo, a letter from <br />Mr. Cherbo and doctor's affidavit were presented to the Board. <br />After due consideration it was the decision of the Board to order removal of <br />weeds from the property and bill the owner for same; allos a period of 60 days <br />or, until September 25, 1961 to complete the repair of the dwelling.,y <br />Inasmuch as Mr. Cherbo resides in Chicago, Illinois and neither he nor his <br />representative were.present at the meeting, Mr. Grabarz was directed to <br />notify Mr. Cherbo by letter of the Board's findings. <br />The property owned by Sophie Tufty located at 933 W. Washington Avenue was <br />discussed by the Board. After said discussion it was the decision of the <br />Board that Mrs. Tufty be given 30 days to have dwelling torn down. <br />Comes now Mr. and Mrs. Johnson concering property located at 313 Dundee Street <br />which has been purchased by Louis Bell. It was brought to the attention of <br />, <br />the Board that Mr. Bell has not complied with the Building Department's <br />permit. <br />After hearing all persons, itiiwas the decision of the Board that Mr. Bell <br />be given six months to finish remodeling of said structure. <br />A vacant house, 740 k Bronson, owned by Ben DeBowe was discussed by the Board. <br />Since this house has not been brought up to standard, it was the decision of <br />the Board that said dwelling should be repaired within a reasonable time or <br />Mr. Grabarz will be permitted to proceed with condemnation proceedings. <br />CIVIL DEFENSE <br />Minutes of the Meeting of Civil Defense held on June 14, 1961 were presented <br />to the Board, examined, accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />POLICE AUXILIARY SCHOOL PATROL APPLICATION <br />An application from Dorothy Ann Howell for Auxiliary Schbol Patrol was <br />accepted by the Board and ordered placed on file. <br />
