May 15, 1961 <br />A regular -meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, May 15, <br />1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST:' A11- members were present.` - Minutes of the' last" <br />regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were ordered paid to the <br />various suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Comes now F. Jay Nimtz, attorney representing property located at 524 S. <br />William Street owned by Esther Frank Litow of 106 E. Angela, South Bend, <br />Indiana, and requests an extension of time to get estimates on the cost <br />of various repairs for said property. <br />After hearing Mr. Nimtz, the'Board granted an extension in order to <br />secure figures from various contractors and suppliers. Case continued <br />until June 19, 1961. At this time the owner, Esther Frank Litow will <br />detemine whether property will be repaired or removed. <br />AWARDING OF BIDS - DEMOLITION OF SUB -STANDARD PROPERTIES <br />Comes now John Grabarz of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department, <br />and reports that the lowest bids received for the demolition of the following <br />properties were from the B & 0 W reckiegg Company. The bids are as follows: <br />414 Melkus Court $185.00 <br />324 W. Garst St. 250.00 <br />835 S. Jackson St. 260.00 <br />All the above bids are understood to be bid "with salvage." <br />Since it appears that the B & 0 Wrecking Company has the lowest and best bid, <br />it is the decision of the Board of Safety that the B & 0 Wrecking Company <br />be awarded the bids, with salvage for the demolition of the above -described <br />properties, provided sufficient insurance is on file and all other provisions <br />with reference to such demolition are followed. <br />RE: HEARING - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />A progress report concerning property located at 2509 Longley Avenue, <br />reported as owned by Wallace Mitchell and Walter Radlauer was presented to <br />the Board by Mr. John Grabarz. <br />Mr. Grabarz reported that Mr. Radlauer's sister reported that Mr. Radlauer had <br />no interest in said property, although Mr. Radlauer had not notified the <br />Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department of this, as requested. <br />It was the decision of the Board to continue this case for two weeks, or <br />until May 29, 1961. <br />AGREEMENT - STLDEBAKER-PACKARD & CITY OF SOUTH BEND (TRAFFIC SIGNAL) <br />An Agreement between Studebaker -Packard Corporation and the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana for the installation of a traffic signal actuated by a magnetic <br />detector located in the 500 block of Sample Street. Said material and equipment <br />paid for by S-P. Corporation. <br />It is further agreed that the Corporation shall purchase and provide all necessary <br />equipment and materials necessary for the operation of the actuated traffic <br />signals; the Corporation conveys all right, title and interest in and to all <br />materials and equipment to the City of South Bend.' <br />The City shall install said traffic equipment at its own expense and under <br />the direction of the office of the Traffic Engineer of the City of South Benda <br />The Corporation shall supply all electrical energy necessary for the operation <br />of said facilities. Upon completion of the installation, all control thereof <br />shall be under the rules, regulatins and laws of the City of South Bend and <br />under all rules and regulations of the Traffic Engineer which are not inconsistent <br />with pending ordinances and statutes. <br />1 <br />
