May 15, 1961 A regular -meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, May 15, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. DST:' A11- members were present.` - Minutes of the' last" regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were ordered paid to the various suppliers. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION Comes now F. Jay Nimtz, attorney representing property located at 524 S. William Street owned by Esther Frank Litow of 106 E. Angela, South Bend, Indiana, and requests an extension of time to get estimates on the cost of various repairs for said property. After hearing Mr. Nimtz, the'Board granted an extension in order to secure figures from various contractors and suppliers. Case continued until June 19, 1961. At this time the owner, Esther Frank Litow will detemine whether property will be repaired or removed. AWARDING OF BIDS - DEMOLITION OF SUB -STANDARD PROPERTIES Comes now John Grabarz of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department, and reports that the lowest bids received for the demolition of the following properties were from the B & 0 W reckiegg Company. The bids are as follows: 414 Melkus Court $185.00 324 W. Garst St. 250.00 835 S. Jackson St. 260.00 All the above bids are understood to be bid "with salvage." Since it appears that the B & 0 Wrecking Company has the lowest and best bid, it is the decision of the Board of Safety that the B & 0 Wrecking Company be awarded the bids, with salvage for the demolition of the above -described properties, provided sufficient insurance is on file and all other provisions with reference to such demolition are followed. RE: HEARING - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION A progress report concerning property located at 2509 Longley Avenue, reported as owned by Wallace Mitchell and Walter Radlauer was presented to the Board by Mr. John Grabarz. Mr. Grabarz reported that Mr. Radlauer's sister reported that Mr. Radlauer had no interest in said property, although Mr. Radlauer had not notified the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department of this, as requested. It was the decision of the Board to continue this case for two weeks, or until May 29, 1961. AGREEMENT - STLDEBAKER-PACKARD & CITY OF SOUTH BEND (TRAFFIC SIGNAL) An Agreement between Studebaker -Packard Corporation and the City of South Bend, Indiana for the installation of a traffic signal actuated by a magnetic detector located in the 500 block of Sample Street. Said material and equipment paid for by S-P. Corporation. It is further agreed that the Corporation shall purchase and provide all necessary equipment and materials necessary for the operation of the actuated traffic signals; the Corporation conveys all right, title and interest in and to all materials and equipment to the City of South Bend.' The City shall install said traffic equipment at its own expense and under the direction of the office of the Traffic Engineer of the City of South Benda The Corporation shall supply all electrical energy necessary for the operation of said facilities. Upon completion of the installation, all control thereof shall be under the rules, regulatins and laws of the City of South Bend and under all rules and regulations of the Traffic Engineer which are not inconsistent with pending ordinances and statutes. 1
