April 10, 1961 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, April 10, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. Messrs R. S. A ndrysiak and Edwin L. Davies were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were ordered paid to the vafious suppliers. TRAFFIC ENGINEER - INSTALL TRAFFIC SIGNS The Board approved the installation of the following traffic signs: Stop signs installed on Dayton Street, both sides, at Marietta Street. TRAFFIC ENGINEER - STOREYLAND ZOO SIGNS Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the Board approved the erection of signs indicating the location of Storeyland Zoo at Rum Village Park. The signs to be black lettering on white background, 24"x24", mounted on steel posts. The signs will be erected at the following locations: Michigan and Ewing intersection, southeast and northwest corners Main and Ewing intersection, southeast and northwest corners Prairie and Ewing intersection, southeast corner. Mr. Hazinski, Traffic Engineer,recommended the erection of the above signs after -investigating the area and finding that many non-residents visit the zoo and the directional signs will assist them to their destination and will eliminate muchunnecessary cruising, and correct traffic hazards. ? BUILDING DEPARTMENT (HOUSE MOVE) Comes now John Grabarz, of the Sub -Standard division of the Building Department, and requested permission for a house to be moved from 1508 Lincolnwgy East to 1118 Clover Street. Appearing before the Board were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Badger, not as remonstrators to the move, but to ascertain that all requirements of the Building Department would be followed in such a move. Mr. Grabarz, representing Mr. Vernon Lane, Building Inspector, assured the Board that all requirements for such a move would be followed and also received permission to move house across the Twyckenham Budge provided the weight of said house was reported to the Engineering Department and found to be within limits for such move across the bridge. It was further understood that an accessory building on the property was to be demolished. SUB -STANDARD DIVISION - HEARINGS A progress report concerning the property located at 514 Rush Street, being purchased by Land Contract by Mr. Carl Eberly, indicated that Mr. Eberly is willing to remodel said dwelling and convert into a three family dwelling instead of four family dwelling as it stands now. Under these conditions the electrical wiring would meet standards.with less rewiring and lower costs. Case will be continued for three months. With reference to property located at 702 Portage Avenue, known as Lulu's Restaurant and owned by Gafill DX Oil Company, a meeting was set up between the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department and the Maintenance Division of Gafill DX Oil Company. Case continued until Monday, April 17, 1961. WEIGHTS & MEASURES REPORT A Report for the month of March, 1961 from the Weights & Measures Department was examined by the Board, accepted and ordered placed on file. Mr. Cichowicz, South Bend City Sealer, was complimented by the Board for the excellence and thoroughness of the Report.
