April 10, 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, April <br />10, 1961 at 10:00 A.M. Messrs R. S. A ndrysiak and Edwin L. Davies were <br />present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers <br />were ordered paid to the vafious suppliers. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER - INSTALL TRAFFIC SIGNS <br />The Board approved the installation of the following traffic signs: <br />Stop signs installed on Dayton Street, both sides, at Marietta Street. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER - STOREYLAND ZOO SIGNS <br />Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the Board approved <br />the erection of signs indicating the location of Storeyland Zoo at Rum <br />Village Park. The signs to be black lettering on white background, 24"x24", <br />mounted on steel posts. The signs will be erected at the following locations: <br />Michigan and Ewing intersection, southeast and northwest corners <br />Main and Ewing intersection, southeast and northwest corners <br />Prairie and Ewing intersection, southeast corner. <br />Mr. Hazinski, Traffic Engineer,recommended the erection of the above signs <br />after -investigating the area and finding that many non-residents visit the <br />zoo and the directional signs will assist them to their destination and will <br />eliminate muchunnecessary cruising, and correct traffic hazards. <br />? <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT (HOUSE MOVE) <br />Comes now John Grabarz, of the Sub -Standard division of the Building Department, <br />and requested permission for a house to be moved from 1508 Lincolnwgy <br />East to 1118 Clover Street. <br />Appearing before the Board were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Badger, not as <br />remonstrators to the move, but to ascertain that all requirements of <br />the Building Department would be followed in such a move. <br />Mr. Grabarz, representing Mr. Vernon Lane, Building Inspector, assured <br />the Board that all requirements for such a move would be followed and also <br />received permission to move house across the Twyckenham Budge provided <br />the weight of said house was reported to the Engineering Department and found <br />to be within limits for such move across the bridge. <br />It was further understood that an accessory building on the property was <br />to be demolished. <br />SUB -STANDARD DIVISION - HEARINGS <br />A progress report concerning the property located at 514 Rush Street, being <br />purchased by Land Contract by Mr. Carl Eberly, indicated that Mr. Eberly is <br />willing to remodel said dwelling and convert into a three family dwelling <br />instead of four family dwelling as it stands now. Under these conditions <br />the electrical wiring would meet standards.with less rewiring and lower costs. <br />Case will be continued for three months. <br />With reference to property located at 702 Portage Avenue, known as Lulu's <br />Restaurant and owned by Gafill DX Oil Company, a meeting was set up between <br />the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department and the Maintenance <br />Division of Gafill DX Oil Company. Case continued until Monday, April 17, <br />1961. <br />WEIGHTS & MEASURES REPORT <br />A Report for the month of March, 1961 from the Weights & Measures Department <br />was examined by the Board, accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />Mr. Cichowicz, South Bend City Sealer, was complimented by the Board for <br />the excellence and thoroughness of the Report. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT REPORT <br />A Report for the month of March from -the Building Department was examined, <br />accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
