April 3, 1961 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, April 3, <br />1961 at 10:00 A.M. Mr. Irving J. Smith was not present. Minutes of the last <br />regular meet'ng•were"read and'"approved. Vouchers were ordered paid to the <br />various suppliers. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( SUB -STANDARD DIVISION) <br />Comes now Mr. Glen Eberly with reference to property at 514 Rush Street to <br />show cause why said property has not been brought up to Building Department <br />standard. According to Mr. John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard <br />Division, this property has been sub -standard for over two years and Mr. <br />Eberly has received frequent notices to rectify these sub -standard conditions, <br />but has failed to comply. The Fire Department has also issued warnings concerning <br />the hazardous conditions of this structure. <br />After hearing Mr. Eberly who contends he is buying the property on Land Contract <br />and that said property was sub -standard when he purchased it and the owner should <br />bear the responsibility of repairs, it was the decision of the Board to continue <br />this hearing for one week to allow Mr..:Eberly time to confer with the owner of <br />this property. <br />A progress report on property at 702 Portage Avenue, commonly known as Lulu's <br />Restaurant, was brought to the attention of the Board. Mr. John Grabarz sub- <br />mitted a copy of a list of requirements referred to the owner of the Property, <br />Gafill` D8 Oil and Denniston Realty, to bring said property up to standard. <br />Appearing before the Board for the owner of the property was a representative <br />of Denniston Realty and Mr.Dj�fiel, representing Gafill DX Oil. Mr. Defiel <br />requested a postponement of this hearing to allow him to confer with the <br />Building Department and come to an agreement as to what repair must be made <br />in order to meet Building Department standards. <br />Case continued until April 10, 1961. <br />ELECTRICAL. DEPARTMENT (RIVERSIDE DRIVE STREET LIGHTING) <br />With further reference to the proposed street lighting of Riverside Drive <br />Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department hereby recommends <br />the installation of 28 109000 lumen arterial street lights on Riverside Drive <br />from Lathrop Avenue to Eastmount Drive. The Indiana and Michigan Electrical <br />Company will hold this plan until the completion of the city's Water Main <br />Project. <br />The Board approves the above and the Clerk is directed to notify the Indiana <br />8 Michigan Elecgric Company with reference to the coordination of said lighting <br />with the completion of the Water )Aain Project. <br />INSTALLATION OF STREET LIGHTS <br />The Electrical Department recommends the following installations-. of street lights: <br />1. <br />4000 <br />lumen <br />light <br />at <br />2. <br />2500 <br />lumen <br />light <br />in <br />3. <br />4000 <br />lumen <br />light <br />in <br />4. <br />4000 <br />lumen <br />light <br />in <br />5. <br />4000 <br />lumen <br />light <br />at <br />6. <br />4000 <br />lumen <br />light <br />at <br />7. <br />4000 <br />lumen <br />light <br />at <br />1211 Vassar Ave. <br />the rear of 3015 Mishawaka Ave. <br />1700 Block N. Elmer St. <br />the 1800 Block N. Elmer St. <br />the intersection of Meade and Hamilton Sts. <br />the intersection of Elmer and Hamilton St. <br />the intersection of Fremont and Hamilton Stss <br />Following the recommendation of the Electrical Department, the Board approves <br />such installations. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT (REQUEST: COUNCILMAN LEHMAN - TRAFFIC CHECK) <br />A request from Councilman Lehman, 5th District concerning parking on Miami Street <br />was brought to the attention of the Board. Councilman Lehman requests that the <br />Police Department check the cars parked in two hour parking zone on Miami (1800 <br />Block) so that public may be-al-ert-ed that'the signs have a meaning. Request <br />referred to the Chief of Police for attention and report. <br />1 <br />
