March 6, 1961 - <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety.was"held.on Mohday, <br />March 61 1961 at 10:45 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last <br />regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were ordered paid to the <br />various suppliers. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT VIOLATION RULE 5 <br />Comes now Officer Edmond A. Hageniers and states to the Board that he received <br />copy of a charge that on the 26th day of February 1961 he left his assigned <br />post of duty in violation of Rule No. 5 of the Rules and Regulations of the <br />Police Department of the City of South Bend, adopted January, 1952. <br />Said Edmond Hageniers has no mitigation for said violation. The Board, <br />having heard the evidence and said Officer Hageniers having admitted to the <br />charge, the Board finds he is guilty of violating Rule No. 5 of the Rules <br />and Regulations of the Police Department of the City of South Bend and <br />therefore rules that from the lst day of March to and including the 31st <br />day of March (or two pay periods) said officer shall receive no compensation <br />but shall serve his tour of duty wherever the Police Chief shall so designate. <br />The. Board further directs that a copy of the Rules and Regulations of the <br />Police Department be given to Officer Hageniers with instructions that he <br />shall memorize said Rules and Regulations and, in 30 days, he shall cite <br />said Rules and Regulations from memory to the Police Chief or an officer <br />he shall designate and report 3nade to the Board. <br />Comes now Officer Joseph L. Szalay and states to the Board that he received <br />a copy of charges that on the 26th day of February, 1961 said Joseph L.- <br />Szalay left his assigned post of duty in violation of Rule No. 5 of the <br />Rules and Regulations of the Police Department of the City of South Bend, <br />adopted in January, 1952. Said Officer Szalay has no mitigation for such <br />violation. <br />The Board, having heard evidence and said Officer having admitted to the <br />charge, the Board finds he is guilty of violating Rule No. 5 of the Rules <br />and Regulations of the Police Department and rules as follows: <br />A copy of the Rules and Regulations of the Police Department will be sub- <br />mitted to Officer Szalay to be read and memorized in its entirety. Said <br />Officer Szalay shall be given 30 days to accomplish this. At the end of this <br />period he shall report to the.Chief or an officer he may designate, to <br />cite the Rules aM Regulations from memory and a report shall be made to <br />the Board. <br />The Board further finds that from the 2nd day of March to the 7th day of March, <br />1961, said Officer Szalay shall receive no compensation but shall continue <br />to serve his, tour of duty. <br />_DIRECTIVE - COMMON COUNCIL RE: SOUTH BEND CLEANERS ASS'N. <br />A Directive from the Common Council with attached copy of letter addressed <br />to Fire Chief Andrzejewski from the South Bend Cleaners Association concerning <br />proposed coin -operated drycleaning machines was examined by the Board and <br />ordered placed on file. This matter is under investigation. <br />DIRECTIVE - COMMON COUNCIL RE: INSTALLATION OF STREET LIGHT <br />A Directive from the Common Council with attached petition for installation <br />of a street light in the 400 block of W. Madison Street was referred to the <br />Electrical Department for investigation and report. <br />SPECIAL POLICE BONDS APPROVED <br />Bonds for Special Police Officers, Louis F. Tomshook and Frank Sochocki, Jr. <br />employed by Torrington Company were approved and ordered placed on file. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION <br />Application from Bud Norman Goddard for the Police Department was accepted <br />and ordered placed on file. <br />
