5 <br />November 28, 1960 <br />A epecial meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held at 11:00 A.M. on <br />Tuesday, November 29, 1960. In attendance at said meeting were Messrs. <br />Edwin L. Davies and Irving J. Smith. Since two members pf the Board <br />represents a quorum, the business to come before the Board consists of the <br />appointment of one Paul J. Horvath to the South Bend Fire Department. <br />Upon examination of the application and upon information pertaining to <br />and submitted by Paul Horvath, it was found that he'..s 24 years old and <br />resides at 1414 N. Wellington Street. The candidate is married and the <br />father of two children, age two and age one. Further, that said applicant <br />has been in the U.S. Navy for four years and was discharged with the rank <br />of Radioman, Third Class; further that his record is free and clear. <br />The Board, having examined a report by Dr. Spenner, finds that said <br />applicant is physically and mentally acceptable as a member of the South <br />Bend Fire Department. The Board now approves the alpointment of Paul James <br />Horvath to the Fire Department, effective December 11 1960 and requests <br />that Frieda Noble, City Cler, administer the oath. <br />The oath, having been administered, Paul James Horvath is admitted to the <br />Fire Department, effective December 1, 1960. <br />The Board, being informed that there is an opening in the Radio Maintenance <br />Department of the Fire Department now assigns Captain Harry J. Lodyga to the <br />Department of Radio Maintenance and reduces his rank to that of Lieutenant, <br />effective December 1, 1960. Said Captain Lodyga, having requested assignment <br />to the Radio Maintenance Department, and being aware that it would be <br />necessary that he be demoted, the Board now approves such transfer, effective <br />December 1, 1960. <br />The. Board, being aware that there is an opening in the Garage, now approves <br />the transfer of Lieutenant Ted E. Kanczuzewski to the Garage and promotes <br />him to the rank of Captain, effective December 1, 1960. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was <br />adjourned at 11:30 A.M. <br />Chai an <br />Attest: Anh y J.
