November 28, 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />November 28, 1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the <br />previous regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved <br />and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />RE: FIRE STATION NUMBER TWO REMODELING <br />Comes mow Callix Miller with reference to the remodeling of Fire Station No. 2 <br />and submits letters from Harry H. Verkler, Contractor, Inc., Brehmer <br />Electrical Company and Edward J. White, Inc. agreeing to modification of <br />contract. Under these conditions the proposals for remodeling of said <br />Fire Station submitted by the above -named contractors are approved. <br />Contracts will be. -prepared and signed at the next meeting of the Board. <br />BUS -STANDARD DIVISION - BUILDING DEPARTMENT' (HEARING) <br />Comes now John Grabarz and Mr. Wrieszian, owner of property located at <br />1618-20 Dunham Street by; order of the Board with a report of what <br />progress had been made to bring property up to standard. Mr. Grabarz <br />informed the Board that very little had been done to date. Mr. Wrieszian, <br />upon being questioned, advised the Board that he could bring property up <br />to standard if given sufficient time. It was the decision of the Board , <br />that this case be continued for 30 days or until January 3, 1961. If, <br />by this datep the property is not up to standard in accordance with the <br />provisions set down by the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department, <br />permission will be given to Mr. Grabarz to advertise for demolition of <br />said property. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT (REQUEST CONCERNING OVERHA&G_1 <br />Comes now Verner Lane, Building Department Commissioner and requests, <br />permission for an "overhang" on South Michigan Street and Irvington Street. <br />Said overhang will extend over public property. After due deliberation, <br />permission , was granted. <br />It was the decision of the Board that, effective January 3, 1961, any . <br />time permission is requested to encroach upon public property, sufficient <br />insurance indemnifying the City of South Bend for liability as well as <br />personal property will be required. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT <br />A petition for installation of a street light on Bendix (Western Avenue <br />to Huron) was directed to the attention of the Electrical Department for <br />investigation and recommendation. <br />POLICE DEPART_ MENT (APPLICATION) <br />Application from Edward Patrick Gassensmith for the Police Department was <br />accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT (APPLICATIONS) <br />Applications for the Fire Department for the following were accepted and <br />ordered placed on file: Philip Roger Horvath, Roy Richard Lowmano Stephen Takach. <br />OUTAGE REPORT <br />Street Light Outage report was accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />CIVIL DEFENSE: LT...Gaa 11 Parfitt of Civil Defense Organization informed <br />the 3oard that 6yt. Woodrow M. McDaniel will be acting Executive Director <br />of the St. Joseph Counth-South Bend Civil Defense Organization until <br />further notice as Lt. Parfitt has been placed on a special assignment <br />within the South Bend Police Department. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was <br />adjourned at 11:00 A.M. <br />n,, ___0 �\ 9 Chairman <br />Attest: AnthonM.
