253 <br />November 14, 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />November 14, 1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers <br />were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />RE: AWARDING BID FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT (FIRE STATION NO. TWO) <br />Awarding of bid for the remodeling of Fire Station No. Two was con- <br />tinued until November 21, 1960 to allow Callix Miller, Architect, <br />sufficient time to examine bids. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT <br />Nicholas Horvath df the Electrical Department was directed to install <br />a street light in the 1600 block of E. Jefferson Blvd, after <br />examination of said area proved light was needed. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT APPOINTMENT <br />Comes now Fire Chief Alex Andrzejewski and requests that Delvin A. <br />Herman be appointed to the South Bend Fire Department. Mr. Herman, <br />having qualified in all of the prescribed requirements, and having <br />been accepted by the Firemen's Pension Fund, it was the decision <br />of the Board that Mr. Herman be appointed as a member of the Fire <br />Department, effective November 16, 1960. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT PROMOTIONS <br />The following.promotions, recommended by the Fire Chief, were approved <br />by the Board, effective November 165, 1960: <br />Private Joseph Daly to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Cecil <br />McHenry to the rank of Captain. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT (SPECIAL POLICE APPOINTMENT) <br />The Board approved the appointment of Special Police Officer Richard <br />Crush, employed by the Home Town Finance Corporation. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT (PETITIONS) <br />A petition for a Street Light on alley between Cherry and Chestnut <br />Streets from residents of the area was referred to the Electrical <br />Department for investigation and report. <br />A petition for a street light on Sylvan Lane at Scenic Drive was <br />referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and report. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT <br />A Street Light Outage Report was accepted by the Board and ordered <br />placed on file. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT <br />An examination of the Plans from Radio Equipment Corporation for <br />alteration to buildings and yards was continued until November 21, <br />1960. <br />Comes now Vernon Lane and requests permission for himself and John <br />Grabarz to attend a meeting of the Indiana Inspector's Association <br />in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 8, 1960. Permission granted. <br />Mr. Lane also requests permission to attend the Building Officials' <br />Conference of America meetings in Washington D.C. on December 9, 10 <br />and 11. Permission granted. <br />SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Comes now John Grabarz with reference to property located at 2509 <br />Longley Street. The owner was given until November 14 to bring property <br />up to standard. To date, the._work- has not been done. Mr. Grabarz <br />
