October 10, 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />October 10, 1960 at 9:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes <br />of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were <br />approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />SOUTH MICHIGAN STREET BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL MEN'S ASSOCIATION REQUEST <br />Comes now Mr. Howard Sigrist from the South Michigan Street Business and <br />Professional Men's Association and commends the City for its new street <br />lighting. Mr. Sigrist also respectfully urges the continuation- of said <br />street lighting through to the South Michigan Street area and wishes to <br />inquire if this is being planned by the City. The Board assured Mr. <br />Sigrist that.it is the Mayor's plan to continue with this street lighting <br />program by intervals as the budget will permit. At the present time, it <br />is not economically possible to extend such lighting, but it will be <br />done as soon as the budget will allow such continuation. <br />REMODELING OF FIRE STATION NO. 2 (CALLIX E. MILLER. ARCHITECT ENGINEER) <br />The Board approved Plans for the remodeling of Fire Station No. 2, 817 <br />S. Lafayette Blvd. as submitted by Callix E. Miller, Architect, Engineer, <br />in accordance with a contract signed February 1, 1960 by the Board. The <br />Clerk is'authorized to advertise for bids on this project. <br />_NOTICE INVITING SEALED BIDS - REMODELING FIRE STATION NO. 2 <br />The City of South Bend, Indiana, acting by and through its Board of <br />Public Works & Safety, will receive separate sealed bid proposals until <br />10:00 A.M. CST on the .7th day of November, 1960 at the Office of the Board, <br />City Hall, for the remodeling of and constructing new facilities at Fire <br />Station No. Two at 817 S. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, Indiana. <br />The Clerk is directed to place legal notices in The South Bend Tribune and <br />The Record on Ocrober 14 and October 21, 1960. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - STREET LIGHT'S <br />Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department, was directed <br />to install street lights at the following locations: <br />1. 1877 Riverside Place (4000 lumen) <br />2. 435 LaMonte Terrace (2500 lumen) rear alley <br />3. 2218 West Dunham St. (2500 lumen) <br />4. Sherman and Riverside (4000 lumen) <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPOINTMENr <br />Comes now Alex Andrzejewski, Fire Chief.,: and recommends the appointment of <br />-RoiDert Leroy Snider, 1706 S. Pulaski Street to the South Bend Fire Deparement. <br />The applicant; having successfully qualified as to health and other pre- <br />scribed requirements, and having been approved by the Firemen's Pension <br />Fund, the Board follows the recommendation of the Fire Chief that this <br />applicant is fit to serve as a member of the South Bend Fire Department <br />and appointment is so approved, to become effective October 16, 1960. <br />FIRE CHIEF REQUEST <br />Permission was granted to Fire Chief Andrzejewski to attend the State Fire <br />Chief's Conference at Terre Haute, Indiana, from October 18 through October <br />21, 1960. <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER REPORT (INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC LIGHT) <br />Comes now Clem Hazinski and reports that on August 31, 1960 a petition <br />from Mr. W. H. Hartman, for installation of a traffic signal at the <br />intersection of Sheridan and Lincolnway West was filed. This:pptition <br />has been forwarded to the State Highway Department Traffic Engineer <br />at the LaPorte District. A survey will be made by that department <br />and the results and recommendations will be sent to the Traffic Engineer. <br />Further report will be made to the Board upon receipt of this information. <br />1 <br />1 <br />
