A:iijudt 20, 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, August <br />29, 1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous <br />regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered <br />paid to the various suppliers. <br />A report from the Civil Defense Department of the activities for June and <br />July,.1960, was presented to the Board reviewed and -ordered placed on file. <br />EAST SAMPLE STREET LIGHTING <br />The Electrical Department was directed to take steps to install the follow- <br />ing street lights: <br />Inst 1 : <br />Between Michigan Street and Lincolnway East 4 - 15000 Lumen, Steel Pole <br />Overhead <br />Remove: <br />2 - MO Lumen street lights (underground) <br />2 - 2500 Lumen street lights (underground) <br />0 - 4000 Lumen street lights (overhead) <br />'2 - 6000 Lumen street lights (overhead) <br />A print (no. D-5-5532) of the Proposed Street Lighting of Sample Street was <br />olso referred to the Electrical Department. <br />Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department, submitted <br />the following recommendation for the installation of 4000 Lumen street <br />lights: <br />617 S. Columbia <br />2501 Westmoor <br />1707 Riverside Drive <br />1 314 California Ave. (2500 lumen) <br />The recommendation was approved. <br />HOUSE MOVE <br />Comes now Vernon Lane and submits to the Boa kV a petition from John Gooch <br />to obtain a permit to move a dwelling from 12 W. Monroe Street to 520 <br />S. 26th Street. <br />Mr. Lane reported to the Board that all property owners had been notified <br />of the move and the dwelling to be moved, while in good condition, was a <br />three unit dwelling and that the S. 26th Street address was in an area <br />restricted for one family dwellings. Property owners from the 26th Street <br />area appeared before the Board to remonstrate said move. In view of the <br />above, the petition of Mr. Gooch was denied by the Board. <br />Comes now Fire Chief Alex M. Andrzejewski with a recommendation that Elmer <br />A Van DeWielle, 221 N. Gladstone Avenue be appointed as a member of the <br />Fire Department. The Board, having examined the application on a prior <br />date and having reviewed'-the.application as of this date and having found <br />that the applicant has successfully passed all required tests, the recommenda- <br />tion of the Fire Chief was approved to become effective on September 19 <br />1960. <br />A letter from the Penshn Fund, signed by Chief Alex M. Andrzdjewski as <br />Pension Fund President, accepting the application of Elmer Van De Wielle, <br />was presented to the Board. Said membership is to coincide with the <br />departmental assignment of the appointee. The Board approved the member- <br />ship and ordered the letter placed on file. <br />The Pension Fund also approved the payment of $200 death payment to Frieda <br />Pfaf€enbach, widow of Otto Pfaffenbach, a retired fireman who expired <br />August 20, 1960; Also that Frieda Pfaffenbach shall be granted a widow's <br />pension of $132.20 per month or 30% of a fully paid first class fireman's <br />salary. Payments of said pension'shal-l--become effective as of August 219 <br />
