Department of Public Parrs <br />Administration Building <br />St. Louis Boulevard at Wayne Street <br />South Bend, Indiana 46617 <br />PHONE: (219) 284 -9401 <br />August 9, 1978 <br />Mr. Roger Parent, President <br />South Bend Common Council <br />County -City Building <br />227 West Jefferson Boulevard <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Dear Mr. Parent: <br />The Department of Public Parks is requesting the Common Council to <br />approve a resolution to submit an application to the Division of <br />Outdoor Recreation for Land and Water Conservation Funds. <br />The project would consist of three parts: <br />1. Construction of walkway (either floating or fixed) <br />under the west side of the Jefferson Boulevard Bridge <br />and extending the present walkways from the Century <br />Center and Plaza Park to connect to the walkway under <br />the bridge. This project would alleviate the need for <br />persons using the river bank walk to cross the heavily <br />traveled Jefferson Boulevard. <br />The above project would provide a river bank walk from <br />La Salle Street to Monroe Street without crossing a <br />street. <br />Estimated Cost - $40,000.00 <br />2. Howard Park Trail. Construct a trail from Saint Louis <br />Boulevard west through Howard Park to the existing gate <br />in the wall and then North to Jefferson Boulevard Bridge <br />under pass in hopes that someday we can connect with the <br />construction now under way next to the Moonraker. <br />
