RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING THE MAYOR TO UNDERTAKE APPROPRIATE ACTIONS TO PROVIDE FOR THE ORDERLY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF AN INNER -CITY AREA OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS THE "EAST BANK" AREA. WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend recognizes the responsibility of the Mayor to provide leadership in promoting the orderly economic growth and development of the community; and, WHEREAS, the Common Council recognizes the desirability of stimulating the development of residential, commercial and recreational uses in the East Bank area. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana that: SECTION I. The Mayor is encouraged to engage in appropriate planning and program development activities which will result in the achieve- ment of the following general development objectives in the East Bank area: a) Mixed - income residential development with compatible service - commercial- office uses. b) Re- opened "East Race" and related open space developments. c) Improved Colfax Bridge d) Improved Niles Avenue e) Rehabilitation /Adaptive Re -use of appropriate structures including Robertson's Warehouse and I & M Main Building. SECTION II.
