July 11, 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, July 119 1960 <br />at 10:00_A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were <br />read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various <br />suppliers. <br />The Board,.having considered the matter in reference to Gerald McGinn, member of <br />the South Bend Fire Department, the Board now finds that said.Gerald McGinn shall <br />be discharged from the South Bend Fire Department and all rights, privileges and <br />responsibilities are terminated forthwith. The Secretary of the Board is directed <br />to notify said Gerald McGinn of the findings of the Board. <br />Comes now John Grabarz, of the Building Department, with a report that Clem <br />Wrzesin, owner of a structure located at 1019 Western Avenue has not complied <br />with the Request of the Board of Works 8 Safety for removal of the sub -standard <br />structure. .,:The $oard,_nisw directs the Building Department to take any and all <br />means to remove said structure forthwith. <br />With reference to the demolition of the dwelling on 2143 N. Olive Street, owned <br />by Beverly and Irma E. Gibson, Buena Park, Calif., this case was continued for 4 <br />one week, by order of the Board. <br />+ The Fire Chief requests the approval of the Board upon the retirement of Fireman <br />�--+ Raymond M. Smith, upon the recommendation of the Firemen's Pension Fund trustees <br />and Dr. R. W. Spenner, medical examiner. The Board grants said retirement, <br />effective August 19 1960. Letter from Chief Andrzekewski as President of the <br />Firemen's Pension Fund concerning the provisions of said retirement approved <br />and ordered placed on file. <br />As a member of the united States Marine Corps Reserve, Clem Hazinski, Traffic <br />thoibier, reg6ested permission to attend the Annual Field Training at Camp <br />Pendleton, Calif., from July 30 to August 149 1960. Permission was granted. <br />A report from Clem Nazinski, Traffic Engineer, concerning the request of St1 <br />Oil Company to erect a sign on Michigan Street and Nalrarre Street recommended <br />that said request be granted since said sign would not interfere with the <br />visibility of traffic signals. Since Shell Oil Company has submitted proof <br />of sufficient insurance indemnifying the City of South Bend for personal and <br />property damage, the request of Shell Oil Company is hereby granted. <br />Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, reported that his investigation concerning <br />truck traffic in Columbus Court has not yet been completed. This matter will <br />be heard at a later Board meeting. <br />The following street lights, all 4000 lumen, were approved for installations <br />Bendix and Frederickson <br />Bendix and Green <br />Portage Avenue and Porrage Court. <br />An application from Elmer A. VandeWielle, 221 N. Gladstone, South Bend, Indiana <br />for the Fire Department was spovrpted and ordered placed on file. <br />An application from James 4,Cole, 1042 W. Colfax Avenue, South Bond, Indiana <br />for the Police Department was accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />A report from the Department of Civil Defense, explaining that said office was <br />closed from July 8 through July 11, 19609 due to fumigation, was examined and <br />ordered placed on file. y: <br />A request That Detective Sergeant Russell L. Hunt be excused from duty from.July 31 <br />to August 149 1960 for annual summer camp training at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina <br />was granted. <br />A Street Light Outage Report was examined and ordered placed on file. <br />
