May 31, 1960 <br />A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, May 31, 1960 <br />at 4:00 P.M. All members were present. <br />At this meeting there was submitted to the Board a leased wherein the Lessor was <br />Peter F. Nemeth and Margaret K. Nemeth for the premises commonly known as <br />114 Chapin Street in the City of South Bend to be used by the Civil Defense. <br />Attached hereto and made a part hereof -is a copy of the lease. <br />There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:45 P.M <br />y <br />Chairman <br />It" L <br />Attest: Anthony J. ab <br />June 69 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held"on Monday, June 6, 1960 <br />at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting <br />were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />A report from Bert S. Cichowicz of the Weights & Neasures Dept. was read and ordered <br />placed on file. Permission was granted to attend the 45th National Conference of <br />Weights & Measures to be held June 6 to June 10, 1960 in Washington, D.C. ,arid report <br />to the Board. <br />The hearing set for this date involving a condemnation order for 522 E. Keasey Street <br />was continued for two weeks as requested by Mr. Fair's attorneYi. In a progress <br />report by Mr. John Grabarz, Director of the sub -standard Division of the Building <br />Department, Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that the continuance was requested in <br />order to compile estimates for the rehabilitation of this property. The request was <br />granted and the case will be heard on the 20th of June at 10:00 A.M. <br />With further reference to the purchase of base station equipment for the Police Depart- <br />went, the Clerk of the Board having made an investigation on the open market regard- <br />ing the purchase of said equipment, he is now directed to proceed with the purchase <br />of this equipment at a total cost of $1,550.00 from Motorola, Communications and <br />Electronic, Inc. <br />A request by Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Elecgrical Department for the <br />following installations of 4000 lumen street lishts was approved: <br />906 Huey St. <br />36thStreet and Washington Avenue <br />329 N. O'Brien Street, increase street light from 1000r. lumen to 4000 lumen. <br />Comes now Lt. Carrol Parfitt of the Department of Civil Defense who reports that, in <br />accordance with authorization of the Board, the offices of the Department of Civil <br />Defense will move from its present location in the City Hall to 114 S. Chapin Street. <br />The office will start moving this date. <br />
