203 <br />May 9, 1960 <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, May 9, 1960 at 10 AM. <br />All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. <br />Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. <br />A petition is hereby received,from Mr. and Mrs. Harry Popielski, 2212 S. Carlisle Street <br />and others asking for the improvement of Carlisle Street from Prairie"Avenue to Hillside <br />by the construction of street lighting. Petition referred to the City Electrical Depart- <br />ment for investigation and recommendation-. <br />Applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol are hereby examined and placed on file <br />for Elizabeth Baas. <br />Special police bonds are approved for Ralph Fouts, Jr. <br />A letter from the Firemen's Pension Fund is submitted to the Board advising us that it <br />was the decision of the members of the Pension Board to hold in abeypnce the application <br />for membership of George J. Witucki, Jr. and further it was also the decision of the trus- <br />tees present to increase the salary of the secretary to $900.00 per year. This is an annual <br />increase of $150.00 and as so stipulated shall become effective January 1, 1961. <br />Comes now Nick Cholis in regards to the matter of the removal of a sign on a structure lo- <br />cated at 3005 S. Michigan Street advertising a motel known as the Ranch Motel. The sign <br />still remains and the Board is hereby informed by the Building Commissioner that said sign <br />is in violation with the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend.and also that William <br />McInerny , Attorney, has issued an injunctive order for removal of said sign. Therefore, <br />the Board now sends a letter to Mr. McInerny requesting a report as to the progress on <br />this matter. <br />In regards to the condemnation order heretofore issued to the owners of the structure lo- <br />cated a 124 N. Adams Street, the Building Department is hereby given permission to proceed <br />with the legal advertising for demolition bids on said building. It is understood that <br />the Board will allow 2 weeks time before such advertising and in this period the Building <br />Department is directed to send 2 registered letters, return receipt requested, to the own- <br />ers. One letter will be addressed to the Adams Street address and the other will be di- <br />rected to the Industrial Savings and Loan Association and said letters are to inform the <br />parties concerned of the action taken by the Board. <br />Comes now John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Buildings Division of the Building <br />Department, requesting the Board to send a letter to a one Rev. Bowles to appear before <br />the Board. Ref. Bowles at a previous meeting had agreed to remove a frame addition to <br />a masonry building located at 318 S. Iowa Street and to this date Rev. Bowles has failed <br />to comply with the agreement. The Board now directs a letter to Rev. Bowles requesting <br />his appearance at the next regular Board meeting on Monday, May 16, 1960 at 10:00 A.M. to <br />show cause why this matter has not been taken care of. Should Rev. Bowles fail to appear, <br />then the Building Department is directed to proceed with the legal advertising for con- <br />demnation of same. <br />The Board hereby awards the bid for the 341heel motorcyles for the Police Department as <br />follows: <br />Harley Davidson Sales <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Two_(2) 3-wheel motorcyles <br />Total bid price ------- $2796.40 <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting ws called adjourned <br />at 10:30 A.M. // <br />dC1410 <br />ATT EST : ANTHONW1 SABO, CLERK <br />CHAIRMAN <br />
