There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting wa�called adjourned <br />at 9:45 A.M. --� <br />CHAIRMAN <br />r <br />ATTEST: ANTHONY AB09 CLERK <br />April 26, 1960 <br />A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, April 26, 1960 <br />at .8:30 A.M. 'All members were present. <br />The Board having set a special meeting for this date in reference to a request to the <br />removal of a house at 2618 Bertrand Street to 2418 Rogers Street, comes now Homer Me - <br />Lott, and requests that the remonstrance be withdrawn and the Building Commissioner <br />now informs the Board that certain requirements have been set up to the mover and the <br />owner prior to moving said building. The requirements as set out are as follows: <br />a. Adequate foundations. <br />b. Complete check of electrical service`and wiring to insure compliance <br />with code requirements. <br />c. Complete check of plumbing systems to insure code requirements. <br />s--+ Plus all other applicable requirements of Ordinance No. 4268-59. <br />Comes now Herman Miller, being represented by Lloyd Anderson, petitioner for removal <br />' of the house located at 2621 Kenwood to 2900 Westmore Street and Ervin Boehm, remon- <br />strator to said petition to move said house to same addition. The Building Commissioner <br />also appeared in regards to said petition and informs the Board that certain requirements <br />must be met before he recommends the removal of said house. The requirements and reco- <br />mmendations are as follows: <br />Recommendations: <br />a. The cellar be dug to a depth so as to bring the structure to the <br />lowest possible height. <br />b. General painting of exterior. <br />Requirements: <br />a. The electrical system be repaired or replaced to meet code <br />requirements. <br />b.The plumbing system to have thorough check to insure complete <br />code requirements for installations and venting. <br />c. The rotted or otherwise deteriorated sill plates be replaced. <br />d. Adequate supports or joist system for front porch. <br />e. Repair and redecorating of interior plus all applicable re- <br />quirements of Ordinance No. 4268-59. <br />Mr. Boehm informs the Board at this time that he has discussed with Mr. Miller this <br />matter and Mr. Miller agrees that each and every recommendation and requirement as <br />set out in the Building Code as submitted to him by Mr. Lane will be effected to said <br />house in order to have it conform with other house in that area. The Board having <br />examined the facts, now grants said moving permit. <br />Comes now the owner of the building at 702 Western Avenue and also Verner Lane and re- <br />quests permission on behalf of the property owner that he be permitted to have a smoke <br />pipe for a barbecue pit to extend over public property. Mr. Lane informs the Board <br />that the Building Dgartment has examined said matter and have no objections to said <br />petition. The Board having examined evidence therefore granted the owner his request. <br />However, said owner is directed to submit to the Board insurance for personal injury, <br />property damage, and liability indemnifying the City of South Bend. <br />The Building Commissioner and John Grabarz are hereby given permission to attend the <br />annual Building Official Conference of America in Miami Beach, Florida on May 22 thru <br />May 26, 1960. Mr. Lane informs the Board that he has sufficient monies available in <br />his budget to cover the expenses and the Board grants permission to depart from the <br />City on the 16th day of May, 1960 or any time thereafter. <br />Permission is hereby granted to the River Park Methodist Church, 920 S. 23rd Street to <br />advertise a Benefit Pancake Fry on Saturday, April 30, 1960 as so requested by Howard <br />Cutner, 3410 E. Jefferson. It is understood that the advertising will be from a P.A. <br />System on a car, and further that it will be kept low enough as not to create a noise <br />nuisance. <br />
