April 19, 1960 <br />A special meeting was held on Tuesday, April 19, 1960 at 2:00 P.M. All members were <br />present. <br />The Board hereby awards the bid for the Police Department cars to Newman Altman Company <br />as follows: <br />Newman Altman Company <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Four (4) 1960 V-W4 4-door Sedans <br />Total bid price ------ $7,571.40 <br />Permission is now granted to the Downtown Council to place the wooden containers with <br />the different types of trees throughout the downtown area for beautification purposes. <br />It is understood however, that the Downtown Council furnish sufficient coverage.indem- <br />nifying the City. <br />Iu <br />There being no further business to come before the Board) the meeting was called adjourn- <br />ed at 2:15 P.M. <br />4� F <br />vlaz <br />ATTEST: HONY J. SABO, CLERK <br />April 25, 1960 <br />CHAIRJ4N <br />A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, at 9:30 A.M. All <br />members were present. <br />This being the date set, hearing was held before the Board of Public Safety in regards <br />to an applicant of the South Bend Fire Department, namely a one John Cunningham who re- <br />sides at 413 S. 26th Street, South Bend, Indiana. Comes now said Cunningham who has <br />been charged for Violation of Article XIV, Section 6 of the Rules and Regulations of <br />the South Bend Fire Department, which said charge reads as follows: <br />CHARGE FOR VIOLATION OF THE RULES AND <br />REGULATIONS OF THE SOUTH BEND FIRE DE- <br />PARTMENT _ ART. XIV, Section 6 <br />That the said John Cunningham, on the 13th day of April, 1960, violated Article XIV, <br />Section 6 of the Rules and Regulations of the South Bend Fire Department, which said <br />regulation reads as follows: <br />ARTICLE XIV. Section 6. In matters of general conduct, wot within <br />the scope of Department rules, said members shall be governed by <br />the ordinary rules of good behavior observed by law-abiding and <br />self-respecting citizens, and shall have charges preferred against <br />them for conduct tending to bring reproach or reflection upon the <br />Department. <br />That the violation of said rule and regulation occurred in the following manner: On the <br />13th day of April, 1960, the said John Cunningham did conduct himself according to the <br />ordinary rules of good behavior observed by law-abiding and self-respecting citizens, but <br />in a manner tending to bring reproach and reflection upon the Department, drove his ve- <br />hicle while under the influence of intoxicants and did in a careless and reckless manner <br />endanger life and property; that on the 18th day of April, 1960 said John Cunningham <br />pled guilty to a charge of driving while intoxicated in the South Bend City Court under <br />Cause No. 41667 titled State of Indiana vs John Edward Cunningham, alias Jack Cunningham. <br />Board of Public Works & Safety <br />Dated April 19, 1960 By: Irving J. Smith, President <br />Said Cunningham waves the hearing at regular meeting time to be held as special meet- <br />ing at 9:30 A.M. this date. Chairman Smith now reads the charge and said Cunningham <br />acknowledges receipt of same having been served upon him personally by Assistant Chief <br />John H. Andert of the South Bend Fire Department, and that he admits that he was in vi- <br />olation of said charge and states further that he pleads guilty with reference to same. <br />After due consideration, the Board made the following finding: That said John Cunning- <br />ham will be fined two(2) weeks gross pay to be deducted from his paycheck over a month's <br />period beginning May 1, 1960. <br />
