There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was called ad- <br />journed at 10:35 A.M. <br />n <br />ATTEST: ANT IONS'/54 SABO, CLERK <br />\,1 / April 18, 1960 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, April 18, 1960 <br />at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting <br />were read and approved. (Irving J. Smith was absent) <br />Comes now Nick Horvath, Supt. of the Electrical Department, and recommends installa- <br />tion of a 4000 lumen light at Hoffman Court and Pennsylvania Avenue. <br />At the April llth regular meeting of the Council, a petition requesting the improve- <br />ment of the end of the alley on Howard Street from Lawrence Street to Hill Street by <br />street lighting was referred to the Board for action as so motioned by Councilman Tell - <br />son and seconded by Councilman Muszynski. Said petition is now referred to the City <br />Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation. <br />A petition is hereby presented to the Board by Joseph J. Horvath, 1908 S. Kemble.and <br />several others asking for the improvement of the intersections of Ewing and Meade Sts., <br />Ewing and Wabash Streets, Meade and Delaware Streets, and Wabash and Calvert Streets <br />by the construction of street lighting. Referred to Nick Horvath of the Electrical <br />Department for investigation and recommendation. <br />Applications for the Police Department were examined and placed on file for Kay James <br />and Richard Bagarus. <br />Applications for the Fire Department are examined and placed on file for Martin Mersich. <br />Comes now Leroy C. Barritt of the South Bend Police Department and requests permission <br />to have his original leave which started on January 16, 1960 to be extended for 1 year <br />from said date which would be January 169 1961. Permission granted. <br />Comes now John Grabarz of the Building Department, appearing with '. C. McGee, who re- <br />sides at 506 Keasey reference to remodeling and repairing a home at 615 E. Ohio Street. <br />The Board hereby grants a 60 day period from date to complete said repairs with the <br />understanding that Mr. McGee will appear within 30 days, namely on May 16, 1960 before <br />the Board to give a progress report, and if progress is satisfactory, then the Board will <br />allow the remaining 30 days to finish the project. <br />The Board herebyapproves the appointment of Thomas Herma to the South Bend Fire Depart- <br />ment. Said applicants have passed all required written examinations and the physical <br />examinations by,the City Doctor and further having been accepted for membership in the <br />Pension Fund of the Fire Department, his appointment shall become effective the 18th day <br />of May, 1960. <br />The time now *ng 'l.after 10:00' A.M. it was so announced and the bids for the Police De- <br />partment were opened and read aloud. Proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune <br />with an affidavit signed by Rpbert DeLong and in The Record with an affidavit signed by <br />Ruby McMahon were submitted to-t-he Board and found sufficient.
